Partisanship is a very big issue, and it is absolutely ridiculous that people side with their party even when it violates their personal beliefs. I don't plan to run for public office though.

Hmmm ... as long as they aren't soliciting contributions. Tell you what, go to Moderation and make thread, ask the question there. You'll get a few Mod opinions. Put "[Mods Only]" in the title.'

That I thought related to the sigs only.

We misunderstood each other, I guess. We'll leave it.

I have no intention of running for office for a plethora of reasons, but I will say partisanship is a huge issue here. But I think even deeper than the partisan divide, however, is a cultural divide that partisanship reinforces.

I'm at a point in my life where if I wanted to run for a small-time office in my city, I'd actually have a decent chance of winnings due to my network having the influence alone. However, it is not something I am interested in doing.

Several my older peers and colleagues, however, are prominent enough that they could successfully run for a position such as mayor.

My immediate boss is friends with both the current and former governor of my state, so there is that.

Having been a registred party member back then, I considered entering politics some years ago and if I would have followed that path further down I might have become a city councilier or maybe some kind of party functionary by now.

It was still an worthwhile experience because I learned how politics work in practice and more importantly I know the mentality, strength, weaknesses and composition of those people who will be in power in the forseeable future.

I've no desire to run myself, I live in an area that's less than supportive of my policies. I had thought about it when I was younger, but I was dissuaded because Autistic folks like me were considered less than capable at the time(we have since progressed somewhat).

The cultural divide.

Rural America and City America are very different places, mate.

At one point I considered it but I no longer have any aspirations in the field, at least under our current system. I'm content to simply write on political topics and put my thoughts out there to hopefully convert more people to my line of thinking.

I haven't decided for sure yet, but I'm considering running for my state house district in my state's legislature.

No, not at all...I don't think. OP will clarify I'm sure. There's plenty of offices around the world that people can run for.

I once thought about political office, but seeing my own interests and capabilities, I think I would be better suited for the civil service. I'll be starting an internship in the civil service soon, so I'll see how that works. Plenty of politicians to work with, of course. And if Forum for Democracy remains a big party, I might become politically active in opposition anyway.

No,

I worked for a city councilman while in college. While I disagreed with him on things, he was a hard working, and was doing what he sincerely thought best for his constituents.

The amount of craven boot licking he had to do to various political and community groups, and the way people talked behind his back. (When they didnt know who I worked for). It Was just appaling. My skin isn't nearly think enough.

I worked in admin in the local council a long time ago, and the duplicity of everyone was like a disease.
