And if it's a Tinder hookup....

It doesn't seem that that would be more effective at birth control than a regular condom, but it's an interesting idea.

Does it include a hood and mask? Otherwise it will not protect against oral herpes.

1. The point is that if men have an unwanted child they'll be held accountable anyway, even more so now.

2. No, not a problem for men certainly.

3. Right... the problem is they're not used to having that control taken away from them, and moreover, the presence of abortion means they don't have an incentive to retain a total lockdown on fertility since they are not punished for it routinely and held completely accountable. Men meanwhile, given the opportunity to realize that they now control fertility and have way, way, way less reason to have a kid, are going to be ambivalent about it. Women will want kids more than men do as a result of extremely lopsided social and legal environment disincentivizing men, and wont be able to get them.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

Given the disproportionate treatment they get in this regard, it's a really really good caution.

Prediction:

1. Courts basically openly punishing men for not having the gel now it exists in order to extort them for child support to benefit women some more (YOU HAD SEX THO SO STFU. Becomes "ITS SO EASY TO USE GEL, YOUR FAULT.")

2. It becomes incredibly widespread and some men basically refuse to come off it

3. More cases like the Indian one as men inevitably become controllers over reproduction.

4. Zero self-awareness from most women who throw tantrums in their spaces about how evil men are for having heightened levels of control after being punished over and over for not controlling it well enough.

1. I don't see how the excuse used matters overmuch. They're landing at the same reaction.

2. I mean, that's their right. There's nothing wrong from an individual rights standpoint.

3. That's a disturbing possibility, but I think, at least in the west, enough people will cry foul to put the kibash on that. I think.

4. I hesitate to say "all" "most" or even "many". I have no idea how many women will throw tantrums. It's almost certainly a number north of zero, but "most" is >50%, and I think that's extreme. I do think there will be a lot of tantrums in certain spaces over not having the control, we've already seen in articles like this one where the writer basically admits to being a sociopath.

And there can be nothing more intimate regarding that than a woman’s fertility, and I am sceptical whether lots of us will want to let go of our responsibility for it.

Or, to put it bluntly, if highly effective, side-effect and rubber-free male contraception becomes universal, it could mark the end of the very common phenomenon of the not-entirely-accidental-surprise-baby and the one-bottle- of-wine-too-many-baby which happens to the most sensible of couples.

Because, let’s face it, if all women had to wait for men to feel broody (and for this to coincide with his jab wearing off), the birth rate would drop like a stone.

However, in the same article...

Or as Professor Richard Anderson of the University of Edinburgh says: ‘When we carried out surveys of women, they were enormously enthusiastic.

‘The single most common reason was that they wanted to share the responsibility for contraception.’

So I question your "most".
