I'm assuming this means George Lucas is actually a Jedi sent to warn us.

The US Navy has broken equipment or they are actual aliens.

I don’t even think aliens could pull that off. Isn’t 5 times (or more) than the speed of sound sufficient to start having problems with convective and radiative hearing from impact with air?

Not even that high. The SR-71 used to glow like fuck even at mach 3.2. The leading surfaces on aircraft just breaking mach are enough to attract modern heat seeking missiles.
It could, in theory, be done with a technology that displaced air from in front of an aircraft. Basically really awesome Star Trek transporters.

Hence I’m skeptical even ET could move at hypersonic speeds without leaving a heat signature.
If you could displace the air as you described that would work, but why would you? If you can have literal teleporters, you’d either have materials that could shrug off the heat, or you’d just transport yourself, or both.

One thing you can't do is just shrug off heat. Especially heat generated by compression of a material that isn't part of the ship. Physics is a bitch that way.
But I thing we're now both in agreement. The US Navy needs to spend more on their F-18 aircraft sensor suite because the current batch just doesn't work.

I still think this is extremely unlikely though.

That makes sense. I've always assumed a lot of UFO sightings were just secret military/prototype aircraft. Humans using this kind of technology seems unlikely in my opinion, but so does actual aliens. Not sure what to think. Maybe the military's sensors are faulty after all?
