Why would it only be for citizens? It's a driver's license. It's for drivers.

The point is to identify yourself. Why would people learn how to drive so that they can identify themselves? That's stupid.

Illegal immigrants being given driver's licenses actively inconveniences every citizen and legal resident who has one by devaluing the utility of their license.

No it doesn't.

Drivers licenses are typically accepted as ID to prove your citizenship. By giving them to illegals, it forces you to go through additional hoops and carry additional paperwork in order to accommodate people who shouldn't be here to begin with.

Yes, because having to scrounge up some other form of ID isn't inconvenient at all...

Yes it does. Your driver's license in America serves as a legal ID. You might not like that because it makes your arguments for giving illegals drivers licenses stupid, but that's the way it is.

By giving them to illegals, which why the fuck should we do that rather than pitching them back over the border, we degrade that functionality.

Funny how right-wingers are whining like migrants getting drivers' licences means they're suddenly immune to deportation.

Let's not forget that Oregon has a program that automatically registers people to vote with the acquisition of a driver's license. I'm sure there won't be any tomfoolery or accidental registration of non-eligable people.

I didn't say that. You can jam that strawman back into the dark place that it came from.

No one has talked about abolishing the senate.

Oregon had an election and voted in democrats to control the state legislature by a wide margin and gave them every statewide office largely due to the Willamette valley which is 65 percent of the state population but that's a horrible thing to you? The votes of someone in Portland ought to count less than someone in rural Oregon right?

I must have missed that, last I heard there was no evidence any vote counts were compromised.

Just the recently deceased longest-serving congressperson (a democrat, of course).

The Republicans didn't do anything illegal and are using quorum-busting because the Democrats refused to compromise or hold a referendum on the law at hand. Obviously, they feel that this will harm or in some way affect their constituencies in a way that necessitates their opposition by any means necessary. In this case, majority rule doesn't matter, because rules and loopholes are there for a reason, and I am 100% on board with a minority political faction using those rules and loopholes when the matter at hand necessitates extraordinary action. ANd it's not like the Democrats didn't do this in Texas, or that it is unheard of. Hell, Abraham lincoln tried to quorum bust once, involving him jumping from a window (because the doors were locked)

IIRC, the support for this measure in polling was an extremely narrow majority, and so the Republicans wanted to hold a referendum. When refused by the majority, they then tried to offer amendments to moderate the extremely aggressive aspects of the measure. Only when no negotiation was possible did they decide to quorum bust.
