I agree that it is rather gross, especially lab-grown meat (and not just plants processed to have that weird stringy texture of flesh), but it is not necessarily unethical. I feel the same way about genetic modification, but only when taking a gene from an animal and directly or indirectly putting it into a plant (it is gross, but not necessarily unethical or ethical).

I'll eat it no big deal.
But I also won't like go out of my way to get it and if it's more expensive then the beef available right next to it then I'll get the beef.

I'm relatively surprised by the poll results, previous meat-based OPs I've done have attracted a lot of 'screw you I'm eating cow..' whereas 'delicious and ethical' leading here..

I mean, despite the name, it’s still meat.

If it tastes the same, has the same or better nutritional value, and has cost parity or better, what’s the problem?

I don't mind having meatless burgers, as long as I still have the option to eat meat-ful(?) burgers.

Today I realized burgers and ethylene glycol have something in common.

I adore meat - though I've tried Beyond Meat's products, and I gotta say, I was a fan. Bought some for my vegan sister, she loves their burger. I'd be tempted to give up meat for the sake of environmental impact, but I was recently re-diagnosed as celiac, and could do without any additional dietary restrictions.

Meatless is fine, and I guarantee that in a decade, vegetarians and vegans will be substantially larger in number.

As a vegan, I love the idea of meatless burgers and Beyond Meat. And the Bible says nothing against it, so it's strange that Christians seem so concerned about it.

I do think it's weird it's picked up on their radar, although to be fair it's this one particular nutcase. I haven't really searched around to see if it's an issue beyond him.

EDIT: here's a relatively decent overview of a bunch of religious views on meat in general.. https://www.rgj.com/story/life/2014/08/ ... /13775495/

..and I suppose religion has general issues with genetic engineering anyway..

I've not had the chance to try a meatless burger, but I do look forward to doing so, and the possibilities they opens up. Supporting Satan's start-up in taking on God's meat monopoly is just a bonus, really.

Conservative Christians do actually overreact to the idea of not eating meat quite often, at least in my experience. It's a little ridiculous, honestly.

The Bible is very specific on what you can eat..

These are the animals you may eat: the ox, the sheep, the goat, 5 the deer, the gazelle, the roebuck, the wild goat, the ibex,[a] the antelope, and the mountain sheep. 6 Every animal that parts the hoof and has the hoof cloven in two and chews the cud, among the animals, you may eat. 7 Yet of those that chew the cud or have the hoof cloven you shall not eat these: the camel, the hare, and the rock badger, because they chew the cud but do not part the hoof, are unclean for you. 8 And the pig, because it parts the hoof but does not chew the cud, is unclean for you. Their flesh you shall not eat, and their carcasses you shall not touch.

I shall email and ask if he's been eating any rock badgers lately.
