Morsi Dies After Collapsing in Court

Postby Thermodolia » Mon Jun 17, 2019 10:07 am

Mohamed Morsi the former president of Egypt who was overthrown in a military coup back in 2014 has died according to state news. Morsi was in court for his second trial after the first one was ruled invalid and overturned in 2016. The state was seeking the death penalty for Morsi in 2016 and 2019.

Personally I say good riddance. Morsi and his Islamic Brotherhood where attempting to create another Iran. Thankfully a stop was put to that.

So what do you think oh unwashed masses of NSG?

Watch-someone’ll claim he was poisoned or assassinated by either some regional power, America or the Egyptian Government.

I can't say I'm particularly sad about it. I don't really feel anything about it to be honest, as he was a flash-in-the-pan President that didn't really do terribly much.

Yep, loss of the old leader who was deposed 6 years ago and has since been in prison and sentenced to death is going to shake the stability of this collapsing repressive regime.

Wonder how many people cheering Morsi's death also howled in outrage when Mubarak was overthrown?

In all seriousness, can't say I'm sad about his death. I'd have preferred his life imprisonment -for his near-militant support of the Ikhwan, for starters, though that's in no way the only thing he's guilty of- but you get what you get.

What was/is the Iranian gov's stance on the MB? Do they view them in a "enemy of my enemy" sort of way (what with both Iran and the MB hating Saudi-Arabia) or do they not get along either?

Oh, I don't know; writing as someone who's living in Cairo - and only a 20 minute walk from Tahrir Square - believe me, things could be significantly worse.

Anyway, we always have our standby emergency evacuation plans in place, just in case; but we're not really expecting to use them.

Pretty much this. I send my condolences to his friends and family, but really, he seemed to have been a flash-in-the-pan who only was known for being elected, and then subsequently losing power because people got pissed off at him.

This is very suspicious. I wouldn be surprised if Al-Sisi or one of his minions decided that it was time to off Morsi.

Does it really matter at this point when 82% of Egyptians support sharia law and 84% believe it's okay to harass a woman based on her clothes (as per Gallup polling)? Don't take what I say as anything against you, believe me I'm sure you're a fine person to deal woth, but at this point a mass die off might be what Egypt needs. Clearly Egyptian society in only a decade or two has degenerated from a normal country to a society full of Islamist and terrorists, where Coptic Christians are constantly persecuted and the state is one bad day away from becoming Saudi arabia. This might be an unpopular opinion but from one middle eastern person to another, Egypt is doomed. There is no future for what once was the kingdom of pharoahs

if I'm wrong about the polls then I'm wrong and I'll admit it, but I'm just telling you what I saw in recent polling of Egyptians on several social issues. I wish things were different.
