I'm with you on killing it but why do you think it was the issue in this case rather than the age old issue of coppers taking graft?

Because that’s where this whole “you have too much money” thing comes from.

Which is idiotic. Some people carry large sums of cash on them. Doesn’t mean they’re up to no good.

Civil forfeiture applies to everyone.

The Sherpa Empire wrote:Maybe ask what's up with the money politely when you first see it instead of waiting until after the fact to slam him against a fence and cuff him? I think asking about the money is fair, but why not ask right away when he first noticed it? Sometimes there are legitimate reasons why a person might have a large amount of cash.

It's honestly none of the other officer's business in why another person has that sum of cash on their person, nor does the other have to answer on why he has that sum of money on his person.

The cop who threw the cuffs on the other while saying "you are not suppose to have that kind of money" was a douchebag and it is laughable to make such a declaration, as if there is some sort of rule on how much a person can carry on their persons.

You wouldn't find it strange that a fellow officer has 5 grand in cash in his pocket? It's certainly not evidence of a crime but it is the kind of thing that would make me, not having been an officer, suspicious of corruption. I don't see where civil asset forfeiture really factors in, here.

I'm aware of that I'm just surprised that it was an African-American officer that was profiled.

It doesn’t matter. To some people black individuals are nothing more than criminals and the idea that a black person would be an officer is out of the question to those people

I believe that is left to IA. Again, without proof, none of my business. Having large sums of money is not proof of corruption or a crime had been committed.

Fartsniffage wrote:Another question. Is withdrawing large amounts of cash to buy money orders to pay bills a common thing in the US? Can't you just get them direct from the bank? Are debit cards not a thing?

Some places only take cash. Usually they are the cheaper places

In this case, if the officer was carrying bribe money, how would you get proof without stopping and asking him about it? IA relies on officers reporting their own to work properly. The fact that most don't is one of the biggest issue confronting them doing their jobs.

I mean that’s far different than what this chucklefuck did. Granted the other officer could have been a bit overzealous since he is pretty new.

You would make a terrible police officer. Their job description literally involves poking their nose into things.

Why? I have no proof a crime that had been committed. Having large sums of money isn't a crime, nor does it indicate one had been committed.

Oh, he definitely reacted inappropriately. But his being suspicious was a good thing, he just followed through very poorly.
