I suggest you read about the rendalsham forest incident or the UFOs over Belem Brazil before coming to your second conclusion. I'm not saying aliens definitely visited us but we can't rule out that they've visited us either. There is no conclusive proof they've been here. Absence of evidence doesn't equal evidence of absence

I've read about almost all of the supposedly best and most conclusive UFO encounters. At the end of the day people lie and misidentify. I beleive that is far more likely than an alien species far more advanced than us visiting us for the sole purpose of landing in the middle of nowhere and doing nothing.

To me, a race far more advanced than us coming to earth just to fiddle around makes about as much sense as Christopher Columbus and the European colonial powers coming to America just to mess with the natives in the woods rather than conquer the Americas like they did.

In my opinion at least, I dont think that we have encountered alien life. As someone else said the "noble alien" idea is cliche and almost absurd. If they had visited they would have openly made contact in some form.

I think that intelligent life is completely possible. It happened here, so why can't it happen elsewhere?

I believe in alien life, however I do not believe the crazies that think they were abducted by aliens. How can we be the only intelligent life in the universe? And why did aliens travel billions of light years to inspect uncle George's butt?

Personally, I think the possibility of aliens existing is next to none. The chances are still there, I just believe that intelligent species are exceptionally rare. I doubt there are any spacefaring civilizations in our galaxy at least, as we would be able to detect them with ease. It would also not make sense for aliens not to contact us (or anyone, for that matter) simply due to the fact the moment a single radio transmission is broadcasted, that transmission will travel indefinitely in all directions.

Aliens visiting Earth? Utterly preposterous. Not only (again) would we be able to detect the ship in orbit with even greater ease, but those aliens have to be even more obsessive than the Federation about their version of the Prime Directive so that not a single person aboard their ship (or civilization, really) doesn’t send out a transmission or land on the planet, revealing themself for all to see.

The fatal flaw with the argument that "popular scientific opinion has been wrong before" is that those instances were prior to important scientific discoveries and often did not use actual scientific reasoning. I'm not saying we're certain how life began, but I'm also not saying it's very murky.

Fair enough. I'm not an educated man. I'm just arguing from the position that since we don't know for sure how life began that it's possible, maybe even likely, that life has occurred/developed elsewhere in ways that would be completely foreign or contradictory to the way we understand it.

Wrong. We have surveyed only a infinitesimally small fraction of our galaxy.

Signals sent from distant galaxies would be extremely weak in terms of the radio waves that actually reach Earth, even in the case of a powerful transmitter.

And why would it not make sense? The aliens may just simply not give a flying fuck about us.

Detecting other I intelligent life is anything but easy. There are so many signals and sounds in space that are picked up its incredibly difficult or even impossible to tell what the vast majority of them even are or their point of origin, be it natural or artificial.

1. Any and all things in space block light. There is no stealth in space. In fact, that’s how we can detect planets - we can see the light levels around stars fluctuating, including gravitational distortion as well.

2. That still doesn’t change the fact the cat is out of the bag about your civilization the second you broadcast anything.

3. Those must be some very smug aliens, and a hive mind at that. All it would take is a single individual to contact us, whether it be to uplift us, to obliterate us or just for lols.

My biggest issue here is they think a radio signal remains crystal clear across billions of light years to the point where we can pick it up and be like "yep that is definetly an artificial broadcast from an alien civilization and it is located precisely on this continent of this planet".

1. We have thousands of telescopes in orbit and on the ground, including SETI having been active since 1984, and not a single one of those noticed any irregular fluctuations caused by ships or dyson swarms?

2. You can still detect the radio transmission, and aliens can too - that none have reached us or reached aliens, and none have stopped by the check it out or destroy it is extremely improbable.

3. Didn’t you say they didn’t care for us? It’s fair to assume the actions of one individual but neither am I assuming the total characteristics of any aliens.

How would we know what to look for in the first place? And something the size of a ship likely wouldn't be detectable by telescopes unless the ship was gargantuan.

Yet the Democrats want to give more money for Congress to waste. NASA was also cool but more fun than practical. Sometimes money is wasted and dumped on trivial but expensive ideas. It happens. They didnt know it would be a bad thing.

There’s still a possibility they visited us. The eyewitness accounts, mysterious disappearances and suspicious behaviour like the two men in black coming to visit some of those who saw UFOs... it kind of adds up to a single logical and simple point—that aliens do exist and they visited us.

Then again, it could all be a major hoax, which I don’t know why people would spend their lives to fool us. Because aliens shouldn’t give a crap about us? If they’re intelligent and more powerful than us so as to have tech to travel outside of their planet, then what do they have to do with us?

I don't think it has to necessarily add up to ayy lmaos, but like I said earlier, there are several well-documented and unexplained cases which certainly might indicate something otherworldly.
