"If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them."

That's some pretty damning evidence right there.

The Bible does say that LGBT is a sin, but it also says that Jesus ate with sinners and told the person with no sin to cast the first stone (because only God can judge). Pastors like this don't represent Christianity at all.
With all due respect, you probably should have stop reading the bible for being ridiculously stupid when it said "LGBT is a sin" and shouldn't have even reached the part where it condescendingly says "but muh god reborn still can saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaave you"

Any religious book that even considers personal sexual actions (or, more likely, being a sexuality not the norm in the first place) as a warrant for going to hell isn't worthy of reading into long enough to find the part where it also does a condescending holier-than-thou "Even though you're scum, our god hung out with you and so we shouldn't tell you you're scum in the first place because god will when you die"

I personally think people like this man are absolutely horrible people and don't deserve respect that basic human beings deserve. I believe they're constantly spewing hate speech that the public is better off not having to bother listening to, it's a burden on all of us to have to hear people like him.

People are allowed to publicly believe and say what they want. Adults don't need anyone to cover their ears and tell them what they should and should not hear. I would rather someone be able to loudly express potentially reprehensible ideas so that I can just as loudly push back against those ideas, and know what they actually think.

The point of Christianity is that everyone should go to hell, but God saved us. It's not supposed to be a condescending or judgmental religion.

If you have better things to do than defend your points, why make them in the first place?

Because it would be nice to get a telegram from some other soul, I don't get that many.

That... that makes it even more condescending though. If "Everyone is a bad person by default" is how the religion starts its base, I'm not sure why anyone would be intrigued enough to read any more into it.

Probably because it's true.

That's not been my takeaway.

I don't remember a passage. "And Jesus spake unto the gathered multitudes and said: 'You're all scum, and you all deserve to burn forever.'"

Let's see. I remember: judge not lest ye be judged, and love thy neighbour as thyself...

That is technically true but their are limits but this man is also an officer of the law. What he said was also an incitement of violence which you cannot do.

For him to be espousing such vile hateful things is totally unbecoming of a police officer and the Sheriff's Office had every right to fire him or was that unjust according to you?

I know what you meant. But I don't remember Christ condemning humanity as naturally evil.

Some religious leaders, possibly. But that's an entirely different matter.

That's less a condemnation as a reminder to not be egotistical and sure of your righteousness. Read it in context with Romans 3:22:
22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Not that it's especially relevant to that man's disgusting comments, though.

At least we agree that he was definitely wrong.

There is nothing technical about it. People are legally allowed to believe and say what they want, short of slander and incitement to violence. However, the OP said:

People like this man, as in people who say similar things. As a police officer, the man has an obligation to uphold the law for all citizens whether he likes them or not, so yes, he did cross the line in a very big way. However, what is considered "vile" is subjective. Some people think homosexuals are vile. Others think pastors are vile.

tbh that guy had as much free speech as LGBTQ people have. But sure, starving half of your own country and blowing everyone up with nukes is much better than free speech. God bless that guy for fighting fire with fire

Alternatively, your counterpart might say, "I can't believe degenerates like (insert gay person) are allowed to be pastors."

He is the bad aspects of religion. Unless of course I had skipped on the day of the sermon killing duh gayz.

Should I be offended? Sure. Do I want him silenced? No! Better he be out in the open where he can be scorned and laughed at versus all thoughts and prayers and spouting the love the sinner nonsense.

“I am not an anomaly, I am a Baptist preacher that is just preaching the Bible, and if it offends society, then it is just going to offend society.”

Ahh but you are an anomaly. Far more decent people who don't think like you. You are an offence to society.
