I don't know if I would consider the LGBT to be oppressed. The government of this country doesn't go out of this way to mess with them and while they may face mistreatment from other citizens, gay people don't face systematic organized repression like for example Jews did in Nazi Germany or the Rohynga currently do in Myanmar. NOt saying they were never oppressed but they really aren't in America anymore although in other places they still are

There is no debate. Trans people were already serving in the military. There were no problems. Trump banned them any way.

Clearly there are still many homophobic people in our country though so whether the government is or isn't oppressing them is neither here nor there when millions of people still think gay should equal death

I was kinda non specific, but I wasn't trying to talk about sex specifically.
I'm also not 100% certain what else you did mean. Obviously attraction and love for other people isn't just sexual. But I don't really read about this. I've never been in a relationship, there a part of me that thinks sex in general is weird, and if I wanted to identify my sexuality, I strongly suspect I'm demi-sexual (need an emotional connection before I experience strong sexual attraction). So I don't really know what I'm talking about. I just know that there are things I think are wrong and that I don't want people killed for them. (Not generally at least. I do believe in capital punishment for some forms of violent crime.)

So if you want to add specificity to that statement, I'd welcome it.

A Tennessee pastor who is also a detective said in a sermon this month that people who were lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender were “freaks” and “worthy of death,” comments that have prompted prosecutors to review cases he has investigated.

In the sermon, delivered on June 2, the pastor, Grayson Fritts, also called for the government to send a riot team to a Pride parade scheduled for June 22 in Knoxville. He said L.G.B.T. people should be arrested, tried, and if convicted, executed.

“That’s the problem with law enforcement nowadays,” he said in a video of the sermon posted by The Tennessee Holler. “They are chasing around cookie thieves, when the real animals are on floats rolling down Gay Street.”

Mr. Fritts is a pastor at All Scripture Baptist Church, which makes its stance on homosexuality known on its website: “A person will only burn in their lust toward the same gender if they have been given over to a reprobate or rejected mind. God said homosexuality should be punished with the death penalty, as set forth in Leviticus 20:13. No homosexual will be allowed to attend or join All Scripture Baptist Church.”

Mr. Fritts is also a detective at the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. His sermon prompted the Knox County district attorney’s office to examine cases that Mr. Fritts had worked on as a detective.

“When any potential witness in a criminal proceeding expresses an opinion of hatred and or bias toward a class of citizens, I am ethically bound to explore that witness’ credibility,” the district attorney, Charme P. Allen, said in a statement. “Accordingly, I am reviewing all pending cases involving Mr. Fritts to scrutinize them for any potential bias.”

It was not immediately clear how many cases would be reviewed. Ms. Allen could not be reached for comment on Saturday.

She also assigned an assistant district attorney to take complaints about closed cases that Mr. Fritts may have worked on, the statement said. Ms. Allen said that while her office had never received a complaint about Mr. Fritts before, it was important to act on complaints “as justice dictates.”

Mr. Fritts could not be reached for comment on Saturday, but in another video posted on Thursday by The Tennessee Holler, he responded to criticism about his earlier sermon, saying he had not called for violence against L.G.B.T. people.

“I am not an anomaly,” Mr. Fritts said in the video. “I am a Baptist preacher that is just preaching the Bible, and if it offends society, then it is just going to offend society.”

The Knox County mayor, Glenn Jacobs, called Mr. Fritts’s earlier sermon “outrageous.”

“I think they’re vile and reprehensible,” he said on Saturday of the comments. “I condemn any sort of comment like that, that calls for violence.”

He said Mr. Fritts had sought an early retirement from his detective position before his sermon had drawn widespread attention, and that he was not currently active with the sheriff’s office. Representatives from the office did not respond to emails and phone calls on Saturday. But according to The Knoxville News Sentinel, Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler said in a statement on Wednesday that he had agreed to a request Fritts had made for a county buyout from his position.

The mayor of Knoxville, Madeline Rogero, said that the city would host its Pride parade and that she would attend, along with members of other churches.

Referring to Mr. Fritts’s comments, she said: “That is not what Knoxville or Knox County is about. That is an aberration. What that particular pastor said is not reflective of our community and the way we treat ourselves and the way we treat our citizens. We want the world to know that that is not how we are and that is not how we behave.”

I personally think people like this man are absolutely horrible people and don't deserve respect that basic human beings deserve. I believe they're constantly spewing hate speech that the public is better off not having to bother listening to, it's a burden on all of us to have to hear people like him.

They'll claim Christians only follow the new testament which #1 is not correct and means they're not real Christians and #2 gives people a chance to ask for forgiveness as opposed to just killing them where they stand but still does not say being gay is ok. The bible clearly states that gays shall not inherit the kingdom of heaven, and Christianity is definitely a homophobic religion. Liberal Christians are attempting to reconcile their acceptance of gay friends and family with the need for a magical creator being to protect them. I've found a better solution which is to accept gay friends and family while utterly rejecting the idea of this magical sky ghost altogether as the work of primitive savages in a desert three thousand years ago, who didn't understand modern science or even the science of that time.

The Bible does say that LGBT is a sin, but it also says that Jesus ate with sinners and told the person with no sin to cast the first stone (because only God can judge). Pastors like this don't represent Christianity at all.
