Depends on what you mean by oppressed. There are plenty of people who practice hatred/homophobia or prejudice against LGBTQ+, I wouldn’t call it oppression though. Something that needs to be abolished to the best of our ability nevertheless

Am I the only one who is not surprised? This is a relatively common belief in the rural Bible belt. I have heard a man who claimed to "love the gays" while simultaneously considering it self defence to stab someone for acting/appearing gay and being near. I fear what he would do if he claimed admitted to hating lgbt people and practised what he preached. Of course, many people here do not know what lgbt labels mean... Any millennial who does not fit the mould perfectly could be called extremely gay whilst kissing their opposite-sex cousin in the rural Bible belt (at least by the fundamentalist third of the population).

The same man who made that claim while considering it self defence to stab lgbt people also claimed all sins were equally evil, but also said that it would be better to be an unrepentant heterosexual nymphomaniac than to ever be tempted to "adopt the homosexual lifestyle", and that it was never justified to lie to try to save a life (only to save the USA), but it was justified to execute shoplifters and lgbtqia+ people.

The official title is Pastor. Like it says in the very title of this thread and throughout the source. Baptists outright reject the Priesthood which is a Sacramental and traditional institution of ordained Church leadership. The Baptist Pastor is more or less some guy who picked up a Bible and decided he could lead a community (sometimes with or without formal theological education). It's fundamentally different.
