I suppose it technically is true that someone with very high bloodpressure could die from masturbation*.
So perhaps that Kama Sutra next to the bed was not that great an idea afterall :(

Out of curiosity, do you know if that tradition predates the first literate in your family? I know that my illiterate great-grandparents still kept a Bible on a high shelf.

A Hindu book would be pleasant too.

Fuck it, let's just turn hotel rooms into libraries of theological content. The Torah, The Hindu Vedas, The Quran, Theogony, you name it? We got it

That sounds unironically cool, actually.

I don't know my family history like that. All I know is that was how my family has done it. I can take an educated guess and say that my great or great-great grandparents were illiterate, since African-American slaves were banned from learning to read and write

Except, what do you mean by adultery?

In my school catechism, adultery meant any kind of non-approved sexual activity.

adultery noun
adul·tery | \ ə-ˈdəl-t(ə-)rē \
plural adulteries
Definition of adultery
: voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and someone other than that person's current spouse or partner
also : an act of adultery

It’d Be hard for a hotel to offer every religious book without filling up the entire nightstand but hotels should have a library with at the least all of the popular books of religion and offer ability at reservation online to select what book you want placed in your room if any.

The ability for people to opt out of having any religious texts in their room may also help as some unethical people have stolen and defaced hotel Bibles.

When I go to a hotel am I going to read the Bible, maybe, if I need it’s resources to deal with a situation. I have found the Bible to be a helpful book in hard times. Not for it’s junk on hell and controlling people but mostly the uplifting and spiritually healing Proverbs along with the useful book of Lamentations which helps with creating prayers of lament.

But if I don’t need it, I’m unlikely to read it.

If you go to a hotel and you’re so offended about a book in the nightstand you have bigger problems in your head that you can’t just close the drawer and leave it there.

In this case as far as Bibles are concerned they are placed there by the Gideon's. They want people to take them if they need them. The hotel is given more Bibles than rooms for the that reason

Understandable, though if I needed a Bible I wouldn’t nick one off a hotel, I would call the Gideons or go to a local church to get one. I’ve also been to some hotels where the Bible was damaged by previous visitors which makes me wary. If I were a hotel operator I would offer online and on the phone ability to specify your religion so that an appropriate book may be left in the room or no book at all if the person opts out.

Point taken but the reason the Bible is there is for someone who needs it. If I found a damaged bible in a hotel room I’d let the front desk know.

There is no need for for someone to be able to specify what book they want or none at all. Some Muslim, Jewish and Mormon books are donating their holy books to hotels as well. No one is making you read it

That requires effort on the part of the hotel for something that barely anyone actually cares about. The bibles are donated to the hotels and it takes no effort to just leave them in the room. Having a larger selection of books would require the hotels to buy them instead of relying on donations.

Taking a Gideon bible and keeping it for your own use is not stealing. They are donated for the purpose of spreading the Word. If someone is reading it, then it is serving its intended purpose, even if it is not in the hotel room where it was originally placed.

Just a few e-book readers each with this on them would allow access to most if not all religious books.
