That's the price to pay for good, God-fearing Christianity. Just pray long and hard for a non-moldy sandwich.

I'd rather just go down to reception, as that's the only way that something would actually get done about it. ;)

No, clearly having a singular book in a room that probably hasn't been touched in 3 months is like having a television play Catholic propaganda for 3 hours straight

Our state broadcaster airs Catholic propaganda every day.

Bibles don't really help people.
They should be allowed in hotel rooms too.

I didn't say they shouldn't be allowed.

That was not the point of their organization. What is your objection? are you being forced to read it or even open the drawer?

what harm is it causing you?

It's not causing me any harm. I just don't like it. So I'm complaining about it on the internet.

Why are people so mad that I don't want Bibles to be treated like this universal good that obviously everyone would want ready access to? I'm not trying to have the Bible banned. I haven't called for the Gideons to be disbanded. I just think they're twats.

Giving Bibles to people who already have them is kind of a waste.

Books get lost. Damaged. New converts join the church.

Also it is not being shoved down your throat,

I know.
if you don’t like it don’t read it, the angels aren’t going to decapitate you for that.

Well angels aren't real, so that was never really a concern for me.

That is not what is happening.

No? So why are there Bible in so many hotels?

Wrong. Why would you assume that?

Obviously when you're travelling with your boyfriend you get separate rooms. Wouldn't want to be tempted to sin.

You will never know what messages a mouldy sandwich can deliver. Perhaps they are divine.

Yeah they certainly deliver a message to my nose, a most unpleasant one that certainly isn't divine...

When I was at University I had a Bible with hundreds of markers in it, highlighting all the worst shit in there. I don't know what happened to that copy, it must have got lost amongst the ones that I have taken from hotel rooms...

The entire point of the Bible is that humans are irredeemable and broken, and thus need to lean entirely on god or else god will put them in hell. How is that not self deprecating?

It’s not self-deprecating it’s more realistic. Humans kind of suck at being well good to one another, even pretty good people act dickish from time to time and hurt people. Not really self deprecating when you just realize that’s how people are, you, me, and everyone else no one is perfect and we will always fall short of the ideals. Granted we are straying a lot from the topic at hand, Bibles in hotel rooms so if you would wish to continue this conversation feel free to jump over to the Christian Discussion thread because San Lumen asked once already for me to stop with the religious discussion.

If it's somewhere in Singapore or Malaysia, fine, those are truly diverse countries from a religious point of view. But none of the Western countries, where this tradition started, are diverse enough in terms of religion to warrant such a measure, especially at the regional or state scale.
