Never change, please never change.

I hope someone in Texas introduces a vaccine tax.

I chuckled because I can actually see this introduced by someone. To promptly be struck down by big Texan guns. Still, the laughs.

The only thing keeping this guy in is the R next to his name. Heck, if I were in that district I'd probably vote him in based on his voting record, knowing what my other choices are. Well, this would be a good chance for a Constitution or Libertarian candidate to get in.

Edit: And before anyone asks, NO, I absolutely DO NOT think vaccines are sorcery. Unless there's any vaccine sorcerers who can prove me wrong.

This guy's in a suburban district. It's not deep red enough politically to run a libertarian or constitutionalist with any chance of success, and anyways he made a name for himself by hewing hard to the right of the spectrum, even for Texas republicans.

The Libertarian party's target demographic is basically anyone who doesn't like government interference and high taxes. A well-run Libertarian campaign could win on Rand Republicans, classical liberals, basically anyone who wants weed legalized(he or she could run on that since Texas is currently not a weed state), maybe even some neoliberals.

His district is full of white, conventional middle class Texans. This is not a recipe for getting elected on legal weed. Nor is it a recipe for large numbers of classical liberals.
The most likely way to get rid of him would be through a primary.

It's a public health issue, so unless you are one of the very small minority who has a legitimate allergy to taking the vaccine, you should be forced to get one.

No, they didn't. The majority of people in his district hit the button in the pollbooth that said "straight-r". The majority of republican primary voters saw he had a 100% rating from Texas right to life, the local branch of the NRA, and whatever tax protest group they're into, and ticked the box next to his name.
Now, I happen to agree with you about mandatory vaccines, although not for public health reasons- as far as I've been able to tell, mandatory vaccine laws have either no or a marginal effect on actual vaccination rates, which is the important factor here- but I'm just pointing out that it's not as if the majority of his voters saw his position on vaccines as a particularly important factor. They would have voted for a sex offending donkey with an r next to its name.

Fair enough.

I disagree with forcing people to have a vaccination, I think it is unconstitutional, but saying vaccinations are "sorcery" is just flat out stupid.

As the measles epidemics show, stupid people generally keep their children from vaccinating and turn them into plague carriers. Adult anti-vaxxers are for the most part hypocritically vaccinated.

Even as a conservative, I find that positively ridiculous. Vaccines are not sorcery - they are science.

Ugh. I hate it when anyone thinks vaccines are bad.

Vaccines are not about the individual idiot's right to be unhealthy, it is about everyone else's right to be healthy.

I think he means adults who have been vaccinated spouting the anti-vax claptrap. Even then that label only works if they continue to get boosters.

Right - if they continue to get boosters it would apply, because then they're continuously doing something they're against.

But most were probably just vaccinated as children, and being anti-vax while being vaccinated by someone else's command as a child isn't hypocritical at all.

Just stupid.

I also want to point out that I am pro-vaccination. I just disagree with the forcing of citizens to take vaccinations. Majority of the time it is for some stupid reason sure, but their can also be some legitimate medical reasons why they cannot be vaccinated.

No one here is demanding vaccines for literally everyone without excuse or reason. Just the people trying to wiggle out by reason of religion or "ethical reasons". The reason most people here are pushing for mandatory vaccines are to protect those who can't get vaccines for legitimate reasons.

Modern society was meant to have irradicated measles and other 18th century diseases, but instead we find ourselves back in the dark ages of medicine. Fucking A.

Ahhh don't delude the argument. Vaccines are not about forcing people who for example have compromised immune systems to get them. Vaccines are about protecting them since they can't.

Well, it would require either overturning Roe v. Wade or WV State Board of Education vs Barnette.

I don't get the speech argument.

Roe v. Wade is about right to choose and access valid medical procedures.

Barnette was the argument that compelled speech isn't free. Previous courts argued that you didn't have to believe it, and could speak against it later, so you still had free speech even if some speech was compelled.

The combination means you can't have right to choose and access valid medical procedures unless you can also turn them down.
