Which totally misses the effective enforcement of the European Convention of Human Rights, but such facts are easily swept aside if our world view depends on it.

The ECHR clearly isn't up to code, given that European countries can get away with censorship and other forms of free speech restrictions.

Or they don’t consider unlimited free speech to be a right?

Do give an example.

Human rights are a moral principle, like all legal principles are at first.

Yeah, and now we have a body of codified human rights to look at, which certainly makes for an easier analyses than asking every person on earth what they believe human rights are.

Human rights are there to support democracy and vice versa, human rights scholars agree, and if you disagree you’re going to have to present actual arguments.

Well, I suppose you're right, in a sense.
America's enshrined rights are to protect the people from the government. Europe's enshrined rights are to protect the government from the people.

That's not really any better, it implies that the people can't handle each other like civilized adults and need a nanny to tell them what is and isn't acceptable social behavior.
Which is obviously nonsense.

It is a bipartisan thing. Obama sold more arms to the Saudis than any president before Trump and as well as Pakistan, Israel, Turkey, and the "Free Syrian Army".

Clinton, Carter, Johnson, Truman, and FDR funded some real nasty people too. This has been American foreign police since World War II.

In the end though, what really won the war was racism and spooked white people.
