I don't want empire, because imperialism is expensive and immoral.

But you have one. Now if you don't defend it the US will become like all the other former powers. Beholden to the biggest swinging dick in the playground. At the moment that looks like it will become China or India. Do you want US shipping to be at the mercy of the whims of the Chinese military?

Yeah, I'd like to avoid seeing the Kurds indiscriminately killed and displaced by Turkish soldiers, which would happen, so I guess I'm the bad guy :/

What a lazy argument to make for anything. I've never been fond of the military, but if they were there already, why not prevent the displacement of loads of people? Oh, wait, because then some Americans may get killed (Turkey would never, for the record, kill an American soldier, which is why there was a tense but stable standoff at the Turkish border when we were patrolling) and I guess they're more valuable than a Kurd because... reasons.

Enlistment is for brown people. Wealthy people just vote for wars they have every intention of having bone spurs throughout.

We need to pull out of the Middle East entirely. Tired of my country being dragged into these dark age desert religious wars for oil.

Oil was highly valued in the Dark Ages, as we all know.

That happens if when a Leviathan is being created and then a few generations later people no longer know to ride it. It becomes then the willing beast for those who understand best to ride it and its nature.

Unfortunatly that have been the Neocons until recently.

Sudden liberals are warhawks now.

Neoconism was imperialist neo-liberalism. And with the later being fading or having been replaced by left-liberals... they seem to take over from their predecessor in those regards.

I didn't even mention the ME...

Assuming that to be the premise, from whence do you wish to draw down? East Asia and leave it under PRC hegemony? Europe and leave it under Russian hegemony? Anywhere else?

A human life is a human life regardless of location of birth, which is arbitrary.

I'd draw down from the Middle East for sure. Europe too. If they want to fight Russian "hegemony" then they should actually pay their fair share of NATO and build up their own militaries. Given that they are more than happy to not do that and just take natural gas from Russia makes me think that they really don't view Russia as that much of a threat. If Russia could field an army capable of getting past Poland, I'd be surprised.

China is a threat we don't do enough about so I'd keep up the pressure on them.

Europe's economy grew faster than America's throughout most of the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. What'd you guys do with all of that wealth?

US voters never voted for Trump to be President. But due to the vagaries of the US political system, here we are.
