When you frame this kind of thing in terms of "this is LGBT rights fault and drag queens are bad for children", you're kind of manipulating LGBT people and their allies into a defensive position simply because you're treating this one story as reflective of all LGBT people. Which is what happened the first time, as well as this one. We're put in a position where we either have to throw some of our own under the bus to preserve our respectability in the face of bad faith actors or dig our heels in.

I don't personally think it's reflective of all LGBT people, but the sort of people who want to diddle kids have been trying to co-opt their way into the LGBT+ rights movement for a long time as just another sexuality and I can at least understand why people blame the LGBT movement for this. You gotta remember for a lot of people on the right back in the day it was just about gay marriage. Then it became transgender issues seemingly out of nowhere (in the eyes of people on the right). Then they see articles and stories like this where a kid is dressing up and dancing for adults in a bar. It's not super hard to buy into the slippery slope argument and start attacking the community as a whole as a result. Yeah it's really shitty you've gotta deal with that cuz I hope you're a good enough person that you don't support this garbage but sometimes you've just gotta roll with the attacks and make it known you don't support it in any way and hope they'll die down as a result. Because taking any sort of a defensive stance can very quickly start to look like you're defending the actual actions in question, and that's the sort of look that really badly hurts you in the long run by driving away non-LGBT people who think you're just a bunch of pedos as a result.
