All those conjugations are semantically different, so I mean, not really redundant.

You know what that is? Fucking redundant.
It is just corrupt Latin with absolutely atrocious pronunciation.
Funny how many French get so sensitive over it.
Yes I know English is just a bastard child of old North German, Latin, with French and a bunch of other stuff thrown in. But I am not pretentious about it. English is not some pure unchanging perfect language. It is a mess, but works and is a lot of fun.
If the French would just admit their language is equally ersatz shit I would be okay with it.
It is the arrogance regarding it that is silly.

Don't they have a system where it's forbidden to incorporate foreign words into French? Lol

Untrue. The redundancy is inherent in the semantics.

Yes. They actually have a government agency that sets strict standards on words.
But have no real enforcement mechanism. So they do not allow it in their official version, but they cannot punish you for failing to follow the official government mandated version at least.
Still silly to the extreme.

Yeah. That won't work in this globalized world.Kowani wrote:Academie Française.
Spanish has one as well, but we don’t prohibit loanwords.

Which is pretty funny since the Romans would have considered their languages backwoods barbarian dialects, not proper languages.
They just institutionalize they fact they speak Latin badly.

My top choice would Cromwell's New Model Army, followed by the US Navy during the Gun Boat Diplomacy era, and then the SADF in the Border War.
Underrated LARP: US Air Force at any time during the Cold War
Winston Churchill wrote:Indeed it is evident that Christianity, however degraded and distorted by cruelty and intolerance, must always exert a modifying influence on men’s passions, and protect them from the more violent forms of fanatical fever, as we are protected from smallpox by vaccination. But the Mahommedan religion increases, instead of lessening, the fury of intolerance. It was originally propagated by the sword, and ever since its votaries have been subject, above the people of all other creeds, to this form of madness. In a moment the fruits of patient toil, the prospects of material prosperity, the fear of death itself, are flung aside. The more emotional Pathans are powerless to resist. All rational considerations are forgotten. Seizing their weapons, they become Ghazis—as dangerous and as sensible as mad dogs: fit only to be treated as such. While the more generous spirits among the tribesmen become convulsed in an ecstasy of religious bloodthirstiness, poorer and more material souls derive additional impulses from the influence of others, the hopes of plunder and the joy of fighting. Thus whole nations are roused to arms. Thus the Turks repel their enemies, the Arabs of the Soudan break the British squares, and the rising on the Indian frontier spreads far and wide. In each case civilisation is confronted with militant Mahommedanism. The forces of progress clash with those of reaction. The religion of blood and war is face to face with that of peace. Luckily the religion of peace is usually the better armed.
