Fair enough. I’d still err on the side of the ROC for that reason, but I can see the argument that we just never got to see the atrocities committed by the ROC because they were confined to Taiwan.

China's ability to absorb and/or sinify conquering foreigners, its tributaries and such was dependent upon the fact that China for most of history held a strong demographic edge. When the Mongols, for example, can only raise tens of thousands of warriors to conquer China when the Chinese are well over 100 million, the inevitable end result is going to be assimilation. However, this advantage has eroded over the centuries; Sun Yat Sen did the math and realized that, in the early 1900s, demographic growth in Russia and the United States pointed to them overtaking China in the next few decades as they (China) was in a state of stagnation of around 400 million.

I am not concerned about that. The are very Americanized, strategically critical, would improve our birth rate, and they produce a very large number of skilled mariners and nurses which we desperately need.
