Unfortunately there are more Turks in Istanbul/Constantinople then there are Greeks in Greece.
If Greece somehow retook the city, Greece would become a Turkish and Muslim majority country.

I am not an expert or a politician so I can't have a clear answer for this. Greece needs skilled nationalists in power who will use every opportunity to make gains against Turkey(political but maybe even military).

One third of Constantinople's population is Kurdish but what matters the most is this:
Turkey has a HUGE crypto-christian population. In recent years more and more of them have started to be more open about it. Greeks still live throughout Turkey. Also Constantinople recently elected a mayor who is most likely one of those crypto-christians/Greeks. Turkey pretends to be a giant but their foundations are not solid.

I mean you could maybe force them to simply leave. A few rumours are enough to make populations of entire regions to panic and flee during wartime
