You mean like I already do? As much as I like the idea of burning through half a $30 inhaler every time I work out, I was looking for modifications to the exercise or other useful, non-obvious tips to reduce the need, not suggestions to use the medicine I already bloody use.

Haha, take it easy pal.

How old are you? A lot of people outgrow asthma.

Can't give you tips other than that. To build stamina you just have to...do something over and over and you eventually get able to do it longer. It sucks, lol.

Any CrossFitters in here?

If you guys have any Bodyweight WODs that you like, please share. I recently picked up a weight vest and I'm loving the challenge of it.

Past the age of growing out of it, unfortunately.

Look up stronglift. Requires little stamina but lots of strength, burns calories a lot as well (arguably more than cardio even) and builds thicc muscle mass.

You won't get better stamina but you'll get stronger, gain muscle mass and easily burn calories.

Also great for lowering blood sugar, if that is a concern.

Not sure about how you could workout with asthma. Perhaps some yoga would work?

Also, for weight loss, I’m counting calories. It’s great because you don’t have to really limit your food options, but instead just limit your portions and substitute things with healthier alternatives (i.e. forgoing regular butter for low-fat butter, or eating a snack pack of potato chips rather than a whole bag in one sitting).

You can look up on the internet how many calories you should limit yourself to based on your sex, age, height, and weight. My current limit is 1800 per day, though since I’m a 5’4” female, my limit is obviously going to be lower than yours.

Plus, if you do lose weight, you may have an easier time breathing while working out (though you’ll still have asthma and should definitely not over exert yourself).

Strength training is something you should be looking into for that issue. 'Starting Strength' is a great beginner program you might try. You can weight train to build up a good base of functional strength, and you can circuit train to get a base of stamina built under you.

You will find weight/strength training significantly more effective for general fitness/shaping than any cardio work.

You can also look into body weight exercises and keep the pace just under what kicks off your asthma. That is one positive of being somewhat overweight. Body weight exercises become excellent workouts.

The best way to get accustomed to working out is to start working out. If you feel your asthma acting up, just stop and try again later. No one can get the best possible workout their first time at the gym, but they can get a little closer every day.

I’m going to the gym 3 times a week for 30 minutes, just to start out. I hope to build up to an hour at the gym 3 times a week.

That's awesome! Keep it up

Go at 75% not 100%, and work your way up.

I've found the person with the most futile job in the known world, my personal trainer. I started off as 17 stone, a year later...17 stone. I'm a lot stronger and fitter but weight does not want to leave me.

Lol if only it was that easy. Simply restricting calories actually dosent result in healthy weight loss in the longterm.

I walk very long distances quite regularly and have some top tier calves but I'm skinnyfat elsewhere, idk if this means I still die faster or not but probably
I probably deserve it for being too lazy to hit the gym anyway though

Throw some body weight exercises with the walking and you can sculpt yourself quite well. Pull ups, push ups, turkish get ups, and planks can be done by almost everyone quite easily.

Many folks overlook simple body weight exercises. They can help someone with little access to gyms or just not wanting to go to a gym to get in really, really good shape both in the looks department and health department.

If anything (weighted) calisthenics movements are conceptually simpler, safer, and (because they're compounds) burn the most calories and offer the most muscle activation. No need to lift barbells unless you're looking to be a power-lifter or body-sculpt IMO. I get by on my own body, sand-bags (legs, Bulgarian, etc). and a pull-up bar.

Murph is a classic though you need a vest (which you appear to already have!). Though honestly, not really a crossfit workout but if you wanna go for the same kind of pain try running a mountain trail with boots. I'd avoid things like the Bates but if you can get your hands of a pair of running Danner Reckonings they got a good grip / lightness ratio.

In order to burn fat you need to sleep. If you sleep only 5 to 6 hours, your body won't process the exercise as well. Light weights, lots of walking, daily meditation.

I’ve always considered 300 crunches a day, but I’ve only accomplished that once. Unfortunately, school work has left me exercising my wrists as I write extremely fast to play my games.

So in the past 6 weeks I've lost 10 pounds, and started deadlifting (up to 90 kg from nothing.) Going pretty well so far.

I eat mostly junk food and average maybe 3,500 calories a day in consumption. Despite that, my BMI is 24.1 which is in the normal range and according to my physical last month (which included both a blood and urine test), I am in good health with my blood pressure, cholesterol, pulse, and liver function all coming up normal. I guess it helps that I have a fast metabolism (runs in the family) and I am kind of the outdoorsy type.

Hmm, eating too much junkfood on a consistent basis can lead to your blood vessels becoming clogged with fat, sooner or later. It even happens to people that are supposed to be really fit like US American soldiers for example.

For some people. My grandma has a similar diet with less exercise than me and she is 73 years old right now and my great grandmother mostly ate greasy fattening food, was a smoker (albeit not a heavy smoker), and had terrible personal hygiene (she rarely brushed her teeth and showered maybe twice a month) and lived to be 90 years old.
