Also, notably, dead is preferable to red, but the chances of that choice being forced was minimal.
Perhaps the proclivity of distilled spirits beginning 40 years prior had something to do with a crazed willingness to fight it out. Plus nobody listened to the women. The Civil War itself gave the suffragette movement the critical mass it needed to give women the vote and a voice. Women don't want a God damn civil war.
