In which Liberal women encourage other liberal women not to sleep with liberal partners with the goal of apparently changing the mind of conservative men and women who will be sleeping with eachother anyway, because of an oppressor-oppressed perspective on gender relations that views these events as an attack by men on women, rather than the reality; a coalition composed of 50% men and 50% women imposing their view on 50% of men and 50% of women.

Reminder that withholding sex is a characteristic of domestic abuse.

There is an out of control trolley speeding towards Jeremy Bentham, who is tied to the track. You can pull the lever to cause the trolley to switch tracks, but on the other track is Immanuel Kant. Bentham is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Critique of Pure Reason. Kant is clutching the only copy in the universe of The Principles of Moral Legislation. Both men are shouting at you that they have recently started to reconsider their ethical stances.

How does a sex strike by Alyssa Milano affect me? I doubt I'd be able to get with her regardless.

Seems to be just one woman telling other women to stop having sex to own the pro-lifers.

It's not just one woman though. It's been picked up by quite a few outlets and celebrities. Womens communities that have swallowed the feminist kool-aid are supporting the move, such as Two-x, with some 20 million subscribers.

I think the idea is that, if Alyssa Milano withholds sex, other woman will withhold sex and then most of the male gender will be going without until Georgia reverses its heartbeat laws (which would make the most conservative pro-lifers ecstatic, anyway).

Personally, I don't see it taking off.

So one woman and allegedly other women. If so, congratulations, your use of plurals was technically correct.

We all know how well that went. But I'm sure progressive women withholding sex from (most likely) progressive partners is really going to own those pro-lifers.

Seriously though, whilst I get the motivation of doing something to reverse (what I think, and presumably what Milano also thinks) very backwards legislation, this seems to be a shot in the foot rather than an effective blow for womens rights.

Also note the undertones of political lesbianism here. Feminist society jumping the shark as usual by revealing the type of people who go in for it and what their ideology produces.

Funny thing being it's not even about the sex. It's about her putting politics before the relationship. If the relationship really means that little to her that politics come first than that is a relationship that should just end.

Pretty messed up to equate sex within a relationship to labour and collective bargianing. Probably says more about this woman's unconscious views of sex and relationships than anything else.

It's not unconscious, it's an explicit part of feminist theory from the likes of Dworkin et al that sex is exploitative action from men against women in the same way labor relations are because something something patriarchy.

Nah. For my money it's more likely to be someone who vaguely remembered that Greek play they read completely uncritically at some very posh private college and thought 'oooh, that'll work!'

That in itself is an example of feminist academia causing a rot. Prior to feminist academics throwing a fit about it, that play was widely regarded as a joke about how ridiculous it would be for women to gain political power through a sex strike. Then it got recast as an empowering story about the wimminz.

There's exactly one example in history of it working:

The Iroquois, who had the additional belief that women could decide when to become pregnant and did not need a man to do so, and the explicit reasoning of the Iroquois men was that the future of their tribe would be entirely out of their hands unless they agreed to allow women on the war council. (The demand in question.).

It also comes after decades of war with a dwindling male population, the demand being; "Allow women a vote on whether to go to war as well, or else.".

Did it? Not in the feminist academia I read.

Mind you, I tend to stick to marxist and left wing feminism, so there's that.

Putting politics before a relationship only means that the relationship means little to the person in question if you assume that politics means little to them. Which is silly, politics is obviously very important.

Getting a tone here that women should stop trying to fight the heartbeat bill and put out on demand like pay-per-view cable.

Really? Cos I count people who I know are ardent feminists saying this is a very silly idea.

And in case you are struggling, the bill absolutely needs to be fought. This is simply a bit of a tone deaf and useless way of going about it.

How about how this silly bullshit arises from a clown movement like feminism which frames the issue as one of men oppressing women and spreads that meme around until someone gets this idea on how to fight back against the menz?

Like some daft bugger deciding we can end terrorism by making pork mandatory because they listen to Islamophobes for too long.

The stupid method arises from the stupid conception of the issue, which itself is rooted in feminist ideology, rhetoric, and excuse making about how women who oppose abortion are merely relays for the evil male influence and have internalized the patriarchy, so you can just ignore them and strike at men and fix everything.

After all, women good men bad, no woman could have a bad opinion on a womens issue unless a man gave it to her.

I doubt even her most avid fans will take this seriously.

Like, yeah, Georgia's new law is despicable, but protesting via treating sex as a sort of prize - well, what does that achieve? That seems to contradict the very definition of feminism. Milano is obnoxious.
