I wouldn't necessarily say that liberal-dominated institutions are explicitly racist against white people for the most part. I'd say if anything it's more covert/hidden racism and discrimination against them. Affirmative action is still bullshit though.

That's kind of the point of analyzing privilege: what makes us unequal? Why do people treat others unequally? How can we UNDERSTAND each other better? How can we enable cross-cultural and racial friendships easier?

That's what it means to have privilege, white or otherwise: you realize and take into account the fact that you've had a different upbringing than others, and also realize that people are going to fear and see you a certain way because of the things that have happened, both in the distant past and in the scars that the past has left in the recent past and present.

It's about achieving a self-awareness, both of racial and social issues and that... We're all human and bleed the same blood.

In my experience, people feeling bad about their privilege only ever comes up with people in denial about their racism, implicit or explicit. Everyone has prejudices, racial or not, some rational and some not. The trick to realizing your privilege is setting them aside when you talk to someone, whether they're fat, black, gay, trans, straight, skinny, smart, or dumb.

I, for example, was pretty racist towards black people, and so was my family. It made talking to black people a surreal, bizarre experience, because I saw them alternatively as criminals and/or as more physical, less cerebral creatures. The first time I saw a black person I was baffled, because I didn't know people that weren't white existed. I remember asking someone in class what the fuck was wrong with their skin, whether they were a burn victim. That might seem hilarious in hindsight, but it also shows you how horrifyingly alien I was to the world, how separated me and my white peers had become to other cultures and peoples.

And the best part is: I'm not sure if that was deliberate by my parents. They're pretty racist themselves, but they're also not entirely racist either.
