Then tech-savvy minors will just use VPNs and Tor to access it and it can't be properly regulated. Exactly like HB said with heroin, it will become more and more common with less regulation.

The same argument can be used for not banning anything on the internet.

Well... yes? The Internet in particular shouldn't have things banned by the government; obviously child porn, hit services, etc. should not be allowed, but it's not specific to the Internet that the exchanges are banned.

That's... kinda the point.

A lot of porn sites have either a button you click on that says your above the age of 18 or have a menu where you have to select your age by birth year. It’s not hard to subtract 18 or 19 years from the current date

I don't think that there should be legislation against it, but I must acknowledge that it's difficult for parents to regulate their child's technology when the child is more tech-savvy than they are.

Biggest obstacle is that it's all or nothing. Once on kid manages to find a way past the filter all their friends will as well, and all their friends friends.

There are some pretty airtight ways to filter internet usage, particularly by using a universal filter that also blocks VPNs. Also, if an application is installed on the kid's phone or computer, they can just be forced to use a non-administrator account.

So basically you're adopting China's model for dealing with the Internet. I definitely see no problems with letting the government be the ultimate authority on what media the people are allowed to consume.

Banning anything on the internet is a Herculean task. When you start dealing in vagaries, it becomes impossible. Child porn is only possible to ban with hefty international support, the willingness of server owners to hand out the info of the perpetrators, and 15-20 years in the state pen for first time offenses w/high likelihood of getting stabbed in the process. Even then it pops up from time to time. Are you willing to start filling up jail cells with people for jerking off?

Yet what you're proposing is that a broad, popular, and vaguely defined category of media be unilaterally banned because... why, again?

See problem A: parents are less tech savvy then their children, and their children have a social network for sharing ways to bypass anything the parents attempt.

That doesn't answer my questions or the problems I raised. A distributor of porn in the modern day can be and often is just a person with a camera or a drawing tablet; or, if you are including erotica and sexting, a keyboard.

Why don't you take a look at the kind of countries that ban porn, and get back to us regarding the efficacy of the bans and their effects on consumptive habits.

It's not pretty.

Hell all he has to do is look to the American South. The people in the south regularly rage against porn yet are the highest consumers of it

The same thing applies.
Also, the economic impact of banning porn should be considered. IIRC it's a multi-billion dollar industry and unilaterally banning it puts thousands of people out of work and on the streets, where they're likely to make our existing problems with prostitution and drug use even worse than they already are. There should be evidence that the positive impact of the ban will add up to more than the damage it will cause, no?

Pakistan ranked No. 1 in searches for "child sex," "animal sex," "rape sex," "camel sex," "dog sex," "rape video" and more.

Ah, the wholesome nature of outlawing pornography!

Kind of off topic, but I've always found it funny that the people who rage against this stuff are often the most likely to engage in it. People in Houston were incredibly angry when the first robot brothel in America was going to open there, but with modern demographic analysis being what it is, I guarantee that there was a good reason they decided to put it in Houston.

I don't care about multi-billion dollar industries. I don't even support modern economies.

The fact that you don't care is utterly irrelevant to the discussion at hand. You're not trying to convince yourself, you're trying to convince us, and more specifically you need to convince us that there is, in fact, a significant benefit to counterbalance the significant costs. Which you haven't done.
