Erdogan to rerun Istanbul election

Postby An Alan Smithee Nation » Tue May 07, 2019 12:47 pm

Much criticism from the EU, and others, as Erdogan decides to re-run the mayoral vote in Istanbul that his party narrowly lost last month. To me another sign that Erdogan is taking Turkey deeper into dictatorship.

They will vote and vote until they vote the "right" way.

"You will keep voting until you vote for us" isn't democracy.

The authorities claimed it was paperwork and election irregularities, but I agree with the opposition. This in attempt to ensure that the ruing party always wins.

It would be hilarious if the opposition did win again

but somehow I suspect the re-run won't be a fair contest.

Waiting for the inevitable news that various candidates won't be allowed to run, because of various admin-related excuses etc.

Sounds like Erdogan should just declare himself Sultan and stop with the subtly.

This hasn't been a functioning Democracy for a while. Turkey's face as a respected intermediate regional power is falling. Turkey's changing with the reactionary tides. Ottomanism is being re-written ever more to coincide with the Turkish state, and the nation is falling heavier under Edrogans fist. Now, what will the world do with Turkey's new face emerging?

Isn't that the slogan of every EU related referendum? I'd say Edrogan is just taking ques from the west.
Purpelia does not reflect my actual world views. In fact, the vast majority of Purpelian cannon is meant to shock and thus deliberately insane. I just like playing with the idea of a country of madmen utterly convinced that everyone else are the barbarians. So play along or not but don't ever think it's for real.

The above post contains hyperbole, metaphoric language, embellishment and exaggeration. It may also include badly translated figures of speech and misused idioms. Analyze accordingly.

No that's Theresa May's slogan for her Brexit deal.

That's rather pathetic. You lost dude. Reminds me of Ukraine and the EU - you will vote until you vote right, citizen. You can critique the US all you want, but at least that bullshit's not here, thankfully. Also, relevant:

23 June 2019 Istanbul mayoral election

Postby Hakinda Herseyi Duymak istiyorum » Tue May 07, 2019 1:49 pm

The June 2019 Istanbul mayoral election will be held on 23 June 2019.

On 6 May 2019 the Supreme Electoral Council convened and decided to annul the March elections, won by Ekrem İmamoğlu against Binali Yıldırım.

The re-run is scheduled to take place on 23 June 2019

Candidates
The nominee of the governing Justice and Development Party (AKP) is Binali Yıldırım, a former Prime Minister of Turkey and the incumbent Member of the Grand National Assembly. As part of the People's Alliance, the AKP's candidate will have the unconditional support of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).

Ekrem İmamoğlu is the candidate of the Republican People's Party (CHP)

In my opinion
Selected President of Istanbul Ekrem İmamoğlu

The majority of people here don't live in instanbul, but if i did, i guess it would be the most right-libertarian party there is in that country.

Erdogan has stated that he came to understand the first election results as some sort of April Fools' joke on the part of the Istanbul electorate, and while he agrees that we have all had a good laugh, he expects people to vote properly this time.
O'er the hills and o'er the main.
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain.
King George commands and we obey.
Over the hills and far away.
