Not a fact. NASA bought the pens for about 2 bucks a piece from a guy who invented them on his own dime. The USSR also developed the pens. Bits of graphite floating around computers that control a space ship are a bad thing.

Actually those pens work great, and not just for space work.
Those pens are freaking awesome, the best pens you can buy.

I always carry one of those pens. Once you start using them you do not want to go back to normal pens. And the price is reasonable.

Pencils have severe issues in space too.

Wait... I thought factoids were things that were not facts but people commonly thought they were?

Ancient Mesopotamian scholars used to write each other jokes on the backsides of cuneiform tablets.

Most of them involve scatological humor.

A factoid is either a false statement presented as a fact[1][2], or a true but brief or trivial item of news or information.

From context, I believe the OP was going for the second definition. :P

The terminal velocity of a cat is only 60 kilometres per hour, meaning that it can fall from any height in Earths atmosphere and survive.

Not that I would forgive someone who actually tested the theory.

There is apparently an interim distance that still kills them though. Too low for them to sort out their flight but to high for them to reliably survive. It's a googleable thing. :)

That interim height, if memory serves me correctly, is about 7 floors.

Yes, cats are basically parachutes. So they need some distance to stabilize their descent.

Yes, except high enough you would need to give them a little HALO/HAHO type oxygen mask.

Actually true is the US always used electronic ignition systems were early Soviet rockets used what were essentially giant matchsticks.
This is not to say the Soviet system was better though.
