Not a fact. NASA bought the pens for about 2 bucks a piece from a guy who invented them on his own dime. The USSR also developed the pens. Bits of graphite floating around computers that control a space ship are a bad thing.

Wait... I thought factoids were things that were not facts but people commonly thought they were?
I might.be getting it confused with another word
A factoid is either a false statement presented as a fact[1][2], or a true but brief or trivial item of news or information.

Of course it's not time. It's never time, not on its own. You make it time. If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. If the fields aren't furrowed, plow them. If the iron is not hot, make it so. If society is not ready, change it.

Not that I would forgive someone who actually tested the theory.

There is apparently an interim distance that still kills them though. Too low for them to sort out their flight but to high for them to reliably survive. It's a googleable thing.

I really love how dumb some people think literal rocket scientists are.
I mean granted they have their moments but that story is a whole other level.
