Less than or only around a third of the 7,600++ islands in the Philippines are inhabited, with around half living in one island (Luzon).
Also the number of islands changes depending on the tide, apparently.

It's theorized that some black holes can travel at speeds near the speed of light, which meant that if one were to come our way, we'd likely not know until too late.
EDIT: this factoid is incorrect, as some fellow NSGers have pointed out. However, I'm gonna leave it here as a testament to the fact that everybody makes mistakes. (It's just that I made a pretty big one)

One factoid that fascinates me dates back to the early solar system. Apparently, back then Jupiter's moon Europa had a global ocean and atmosphere warmed by the heat from the forming Jupiter before it finally froze into the solid ice crust we know today.
It's thought that Jupiter's gravity stretching and squashing Europa has created enough thermal energy for it to still have a global ocean under all that ice.

And Cobol it claims.. odd that. Makes me wonder how reliable the article is. Also because fortran and assembler were still widely taught in the 80s and 90s due to many useful physics libraries - people with that knowledge are not rare.

The closest one is around 3000 light-years away. If it were to come towards us at light-speed, it would still take nearly 3000 years to reach us.
We'd know it would hit us before it actually does.

Surprisingly enough there is still demand for cobal coders, I have a friend who worked as a consultant doing cobol. He retired about 10 years ago, he was never on the beach unless he wanted to be.
