I shouldn't have made any remarks about race, and I should have realized that original post was bait. My apologies for throwing the thread off-course. Nobody wants to hear about the "white genocide myth" so I won't post anymore about it here. If I see a thread about it, I'll post what I have to say there.

I know I'm just hopping in to this conversation with no knowledge of the current state of things in this forum but it is my personal belief that the only point of marriage is to have kids, it's entirely religious so I think that if you do not want kids or you are unable to as two women or two men are unable to do or you are non-religious getting married isn't worth it and the government should just get out of it.

Now I actually still want the original purpose of marriage to persist in society: family and child raising. Like, kids need someone to feed and care for them and big ol' govt should still do something to prevent child neglect/abuse/etc.

Yeah I understand that it is the govs job is to protect its people but marriage is a religious construct and I believe that it is the govs job to get out of religion.
Yes a mother and a father in my belief are very important and we are just now getting to see it play out on the larger scale and we will be able to see how it affects children.

Fact is, child neglect and the sense of parental responsibility are shitty today (though I haven't got the data from the past to compare with). You can decide whether you want to have kids or not but you shouldn't decide whether you want to care for your living, breathing kid. At least, there should be some kind of system to maximize parental responsibility (as going to 100% is frivolous)

Marriage is an institution that has its specific roots in religion, civil unions are directly a creation of the state with no religious background.
