As I understand it, and OEP please correct me if I'm wrong; OEP dislikes being suppressed or persecuted himself, but would gladly suppress and persecute were he in a position to do so. He either does not see a contradiction, or does not care about it.

Very pro-homosexuality. Men and women were expected and encouraged to have partners of the same sex, and some people would get same sex marriages. It was the arrival of Christian missionaries that brought an end to this along with colonial crackdowns of homosexual acts. A century of colonial laws and the rise recently of Evangelical Americans heading to Africa that have caused the massive spike anti-LGBT laws being enforced in mass.

A combination of both. Though Americans coming to African countries and revitalising anti-LGBT laws in regions is definitely making it much harder for people fighting this discrimination and threats to their lives.

There are legal advantages in many jurisdictions for people who get married, in addition to a whole host of other reasons for getting married. Reducing marriage to child production devalues marriage.
