I don't normally open threads in NSG, but holy crap, another one!

Title is too long, so here it is:

Short extract:
AS HUNDREDS ARE QUARANTINED FOR MEASLES IN CALIFORNIA, DONALD TRUMP URGES AMERICANS TO GET VACCINATED
With a record number of measles cases reported across in the United States, the outbreak doesn't show signs of letting up just yet.

Earlier this week, UCLA and California State University at Los Angeles announced that hundreds of students, faculty and staff have been placed under a mandatory quarantine after two students, one at each university, contracted the virus and attended classes on their respective campuses.

At UCLA, the student reportedly entered two buildings, Franz Hall and Boelter Hall, over a three-day period to attend classes. The university learned of the measles case on Monday and began precautionary measures, CNN reported.

"Upon learning of this incident, UCLA immediately identified and notified more than 500 students, faculty and staff with whom the student may have come into contact or who may have otherwise been exposed," UCLA Chancellor Gene Block Block said in a statement. "They were also provided with detailed information about treatment and prevention."

As of Friday, the school told CNN that approximately 50 people were still under quarantine and would remain there until they could provide proof of vaccination or until the 21 day isolation period has expired. Only one student involved in the quarantine lives on campus and arrangements had been made to remove the individual from the dormitory, though UCLA did not give specifics of those arrangements to CNN.

-----

Even President Trump — who has previously expressed anti-vaccination sentiments — urged Americans to be vaccinated, telling reporters Friday, "The vaccinations are so important. This is really going around now. They have to get their shots.”

Primary source (where I got it from): https://www.newsweek.com/hundreds-are-q ... et-1407536

Other sources:

So basically from the sources, two universities were put under mandatory quarantine for measles, and in turn, Donald Trump has urged the Americans to get vaccinated. Last source link talked about Donald Trump saying this.

Do you think the quarantines are a step in the right direction?

Personally to me, this kind of thing should NOT have happened in the first place. I would like to blame the anti-vaccination movement, who probably has once again screwed things up for everyone, though... I'm not sure, you know? I admit, I have went too far in calling them bioterrorists, or any of those words, but at the same time, I will call them a menace. The menacing movement that should not have existed in the first place.

I am personally in for quarantines and more education. No matter how much they ignore science, they can only be thwarted with real talk and MORE science. You know the saying "Blind them with Science"?

Here's to hoping that the number of measles cases decline and eventually, measles can go back to the grave it once occupied.

EDIT: I forgot to say it before, but if you're in California, please do be careful!

Anti-vaxxers are the cancer of this century. It's amazing that their general stupidity and ignorance put lives of innocents at risk.

I want to point out that while the sources don't exactly pin the anti-vaxxers as the cause or the blame of this outbreak... I like to speculate that it might be them. I mean, measles is more or less under control in other countries, but it just so happens that California is having an outbreak possibly due to people not vaccinating even if they can.

I'm speculating a lot here.

It's practically the only reason I can think of. This wouldn't have happened if the individuals were vaccinated.

Well, we should do what other nations did, but we'll be one step ahead of them: ban non-vaccinated children from schools and public places and jail/execute anti-vaxx parents

UMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........................................
How about we just make vaccinations mandatory?????

And if someone refuses, they get jailed (or fined) and the kids go live with the other parent of foster until the parent is out of jail and ready to get vaccinated

This. ^^ We should all celebrate their "accomplishment" of bringing back eradicated diseases.

While I can agree with the sentiment, I don't think executing them might be the best possible thing.

I will just say hefty fine, jail-time or ban from public schools.

Exections for anti-vaxxers would only strengthen them.

Eventually you'd get multi-execution resistant anti-vaxxers.

How so? Would mandatory vaccination somehow make anti-vaxxer movements more popular?

No, they are talking about executing anti-vaxxers, which is from another separate poster.

Executing them is going too far, and it would give them more reason to be mad at us, or worse, have their own people martyred.

Jesus, that'd give their stupidity some degree of ground. No, that's bad. We're better off making vaccination mandatory and fine/put in prison to people who can but don't vaccinate their children (Assuming their inmune system is normal).

I'm supportive of mandatory vaccinations. Executions of anti-vaxxers though would create myrters, and be a grotesque abuse of state power.

That's a very fair point. Executing them is going too far. Mandatory vaccination is good enough.

That's kind of okay with me. By execute, I mean not to put them in front of a death squad for not vaccinating them.

At least, that's what my definition of "execute" is.

Good. Health is important. I usually don't support mandatory vaccination, or the limiting of freedom, but its for the peoples safety and health.

Being legally liable for spreading an infection is likely going to be the only way to stop anti vaxers.

You could make it illegal but then you’re interfering in someone else’s choice, laws get broken all the damn time so it’s effectiveness would be debatable. Also no one really cares if you’re vaccinated just if you’re going to spread some shit to their kids.

Liable in the same way a business is for not having basic safety and signage.

Imagine shitty ethics lawyers moving on from finding unsigned spillages at casinos to fall over because it’s easier to be at risk of catching Ebola or squirrel aids from a fucking Karen.

Even mandatory vaccination is making people mad; just ask the French or the Swiss...
