Doesn't sound dehumanizing. Dehumanizing is more like threating to enslave or segregate those who you call subhuman

The pronoun "it" always has a sense of referring to something that's not human, or not sentient. That's how it seems, at least.

Just a pointless point of semantics: shouldn't space aliens be "a-terrestrials?"

Since "Terra" is Earth, which is where they're not from. And "extra" implies they're from Earth a whole lot.

I was recently curious about how nonbinary Russians deal with pronouns and some of them use оно, which has similar connotations to "it" (оно is the pronoun for the neuter gender, but neuter is only possible on inanimate objects). I was surprised by people using that solution, particularly because оно is merged into the male pronoun for past tense verb conjugations, possessives, and non-nominative cases.

(In case anyone's curious, the other common options were alternating between the two gendered pronouns он/она, using the plural pronoun они, and avoiding gendered terminology.)

I get that "extra" is more properly translated to "beyond," but it's typically "beyond" in the sense that it's a multiplicity of those same traits.

In the case of extraordinary, they have the same skill or traits as the ordinary, but taken to a further degree. By that logic, extraterrestrials should be Dwarves, or Morlocks, or somethings. Super into Earth.

Good point but I've met a fair share of people who actually use it/it's pronouns.

Same here, I get a lot of weird looks but I validate genders and pronouns regardless (barring the obvious exceptions)

Swith has a lot going on in her life, so as much as I miss her presence around here, I understand that she isn't around often.

Not sure how I feel about people claiming their pronouns are "it/its," considering those are often used demeaningly, especially to trans people.
