Because workers for Dodge and various other companies took raw materials and step by step transformed them into a 1968 Dodge Charger, and with enough time and some tools any determined person could turn that car into scrap. If I presented you with a pile of scrap, would you call it a Dodge Charger? Would you call it raw iron ore? Do you imagine that there were metals buried in the Earth, there for billions of years, that were somehow always truly a Dodge Charger?
