Definitely arguable.

If you're arguing origins, it's not at all that. It shares it's history with 4chan's dubious history of self-contradiction.

4chan inventing Pedobear doesn't mean pedophiles didn't use 4chan. That's the whole point of 4chan, it that there's no filter for anything, and the users and moderators can only do so much. End of the day, creepy pedophiles loved to talk about lolicon and there was nothing you could do about it except dox them, troll them, or have the admins change their outlook or rules.

Just because "trap" FIRST originated as a non-slur doesn't make it not a slur if people use it as such.

If you're arguing that people DON'T do that, that's patently not true. People do. Some people may not mean it like that and some people aren't even aware of it, and some "brave" souls like you use it as some kind of rebellious flag.

End of the day, though, some people use it as a slur, and people take offense to that.

Same thing can be said of any slur.

You can argue history, but I don't see why we need to wait 400 years to not like something.

If multiple trans people are telling you over and over and over again that we consider trap a slur, in a discussion thread about us, other trans people, and trans issues in general that you voluntarily came into to argue that trap isn't a slur to us, maybe you should reeeaaaaally reevaluate the hill you're trying to die on.

I never said or even insinuated any of that, so I sure as fuck don't know where you're getting this from.

So you're vacillating between recognizing how unimportant your gender is and holding the fact this is the transgender thread and that transgender people are in it as sacred. I don't care about your gender. It does not matter. Your opinions on whether or not it's a slur hold as much weight as your opinions on whether or not a virus is alive and whether or not you personally are alive does not add weight to your words.

Not to you, but that's irrelevant.

So the transgender opinion of a word being used as a slur against transgender people is irrelevant. Gotcha.

I'm sure you think exactly the same about men's opinions on slurs directed toward the male gender.

Also, yeah, that's how slurs work.

People don't like them because it carries a bad implication, so they feel bad when people call them that name.

You can use the n-word neutrally, doesn't make it not hurtful when you call people by that name, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY'VE EXPLICITLY SAID SO.

Who is saying "call people things they don't want to be called?" You're railing against this, who said it?

Also who is calling transgender people traps disparagingly, I don't think I've ever actually seen it used as an insult online.

Gee, remind me of anybody, I wonder.

My position is rather obvious: while I don't agree that "trap" is an inherent slur, I agree that if transgender people ask you to not say it, you should take their feelings and thoughts into consideration on why it's a bad idea, not just for you, but for everyone like you to repeat it, and it's incredibly petty and self-centered to repeat it, to their face or elsewhere, to spite them because you feel targeted and oppressed.

By "the cabal".

And again, coming from the girl who hasn't really much besides TIL, 10/10, etc.

Do you actually have a source for anyone using the term trap to degrade transgender people? I could find you a link to someone using the word faggot hatefully, to someone using the word nigger hatefully, Proctopeo claims to have never seen this occur with transgender people which has led me to notice I've never seen it either.

You seem to be jumping around with what you're referring to at lightning speeds.
Is it "don't call people that"? Or "don't use it, ever"? Make up your mind, please.

Hey, if you actually take GLAAD seriously, that's your own personal problem.
Though it does mean anything you say deserves extra criticism and skepticism.

Anyway, actual examples, instead of vague pointing at the direction of randumb organizations, hole-filled Wikipedia articles, and literal clowns?

Gee, remind me of anybody, I wonder.

My position is rather obvious: while I don't agree that "trap" is an inherent slur, I agree that if transgender people ask you to not say it, you should take their feelings and thoughts into consideration on why it's a bad idea, not just for you, but for everyone like you to repeat it, and it's incredibly petty and self-centered to repeat it, to their face or elsewhere, to spite them because you feel targeted and oppressed.

By "the cabal".

What gave you the impression that I use the word out of spite? I use it in spite of people's blubbering over it, but "in spite of" and "out of spite" are entirely different, despite containing the same operating word. English is strange like that.
"In spite of" means "despite" or "regardless of"; was already being done before, and isn't being no longer done due to attempts by others.
"Out of spite" means "done with desire to spite or to hurt"; wasn't already being done before, but is, due to attempts by others.
Quite obviously, I'm firmly using it in spite of, not out of spite.

10/10 as always.

And again, coming from the girl who hasn't really much besides TIL, 10/10, etc.

Yeah, Torra really needs to diversify what she says. Gets boring to read after the umpteenth time.

Do you actually have a source for anyone using the term trap to degrade transgender people? I could find you a link to someone using the word faggot hatefully, to someone using the word nigger hatefully, Proctopeo claims to have never seen this occur with transgender people which has led me to notice I've never seen it either.

Most notably, the closest example I've ever received was... someone being called "goober". Again, I'm still very confused by this. I say "closest example" because it's in fact the only attempt at giving an example I've ever even seen.

Nah, I've said a lot more than just that. I'm just tired at this point of having to deal with this bullshit.

Well, I've had it used against me hatefully, for a first-hand source to start with, but I'm sure you'll just dismiss that.

Yes I will.
