Often in media Trans characters seem to be, as far as I can tell, often portrayed by non-Trans actors/actresses. Naturally said actors/actresses have masculine/feminine voices as men and women usually do aside from the rare androgynous voice. I have, as far as I'm aware, never heard a Trans person speak. So, like, when you transition are you stuck with your default voice and have to imitate your transitioned sex's masculine/feminine voice or is there a drug you take to make it sound more masculine or feminine or do you have to get a voice coach to train your voice to sound more masculine/feminine or what?

Depends. Testosterone has been known to lower the voice of transmasculine people, but it's much more rare (not even sure it happens off the top of my head) for estrogen to similarly affect transfeminine people. For us, it does tend to rely more on training the voice and/or certain surgeries.

It's pretty common for a lot of trans women to do voice training, either on their own using online tutorials or with professional help with a vocal coach. Taking feminizing hormone therapy if you had already gone through natal male puberty won't change it. Voice changes are a permanent and irreversible effect of masculinizing hormone therapy.

If a trans woman is able to get on puberty blockers before the major course of their puberty, then testosterone won't lower the voice. Transmen are able to achieve a deeper voice through hormone replacement therapy because testosterone naturally changes the vocal cords. If a transwomen has undergone a male puberty then she will in most cases have to do voice training in order to achieve a feminine voice. Vocal coaches make the process much easier, but since most of us don't have silver spoons in our mouths, we usually have to settle for things such as online tutorials to help us.

keep in mind that owing to the novel widespread availability of puberty blockers, there do exist trans females who do not go through much of male puberty and therefore have to take very few steps in voice training.

TERFs like to say "we can always tell" but confuse cis women and trans women all the time, so they always cannot clock a trans person despite what they say. And since they are not supportive of trans people they misgender the cis woman they think is trans as a man.
