The stuff was nationalised almost 60 years ago for fuck's sake...

So what, you would not say that if it were your property that got nationalized by any government.

If you support ending sanctions against the one political party state eternal revolution of Cuba, then it seems like you support the Cuban Communist Socialist Government of Fidel, Raúl and Diaz-Canel, question yes or no?

Anyone expecting to move back into their family's old house in Havana after the overthrow of the Cuban government is deluding themselves. Here's how this works, including for big companies (think oil) that get nationalized. Any favorable judgments get rolled up into a big ball and included in a global settlement of differences and are paid off at pennies (if that much) on the dollar. Check a little history and you'll find that's about right. Helms Burton is a scam and a fraud...iow right up this administration's alley.

I want my 3 bedroom, 2 bath house, with a stone and fenced front porch, and a small two floor house we built in the stone walled back yard. I want the family farm back where I used to ride horses and eat mangos under the big mango tree, I want the family hotel, restaurant and bar back.

I want the 5 family style restaurants of Voltaire, the rich upper class Padrino of my family in Cuba, and the investments he had in many other businesses in Cuba, today I would have been the General Manager CEO of the five restaurants, I would have turned into a major chain of restaurants in Cuba and Miami.

This ^^ The "libertarian" part of the socialism is a veneer. Marxist-Leninism is rightfully soiled so they need a new skin.

What good have the sanctions and embargoes done? Five decades later, the one-party democracy you seek to depose is not only intact, but just had its mandate revitalized in the new constitution. And to top it off, that same one-party democracy continues to manage to get good things done, which leads to another problem: American-style multi-party capitalist democracy is going to continue to be a hard sell for a lot of people if Cuba continues to be a flawed but often successful state that sometimes even manages to provide for its people better than the United States. When push comes to shove, many people will willingly side with the regime that has been most adept at improving their overall quality of life over the abstract, principled ideals of American liberalism or conservatism.

Hm...
The electoral conduct has been described as being fraudulent,[100] with the call for an election by the pro-government Constituent National Assembly being declared unconstitutional in the first place, especially when the body moved the election date ahead from December to April.[101] The National Electoral Council (CNE), which is charged with overseeing elections in Venezuela, is also controlled by Maduro sympathizers.[101] The Bolivarian government has also been accused of excluding opposition candidates, handpicking candidates, voter intimidation, vote buying, and offering food to those who vote for President Maduro.[100][101] No recognized electoral observers were reported to be present for the elections.[101]

Why do you like authoritarian states so much? Why are you such an intellectual hypocrite?

I must have misremembered. I was pretty sure that accusations of electoral fraud had been debunked.

Also, "excluding opposition candidates"? Didn't the opposition leaders boycott the election in the first place?

Also, don't accuse me of being an "intellectual hypocrite". The argument I made had nothing to do with whether I actually support Maduro, which I don't. And I've made that clear repeatedly. So you can spare me your flaccid attempt at patronizing me.

Depends on the property. In the Cuban case, I'd probably let said government keep it, since it most likely would have been some sort of really messed up slave plantation or something.

Even the apologists of industrialism have been obliged to admit that some economic evils follow in the wake of the machines. These are such as overproduction, unemployment, and a growing inequality in the distribution of wealth. But the remedies proposed by the apologists are always homeopathic. They expect the evils to disappear when we have bigger and better machines, and more of them. Their remedial programs, therefore, look forward to more industrialism.

If the US can tolerate the likes of MBS, Putin, and Kim, then it sure can tolerate Castro, and why not? All are bloodthirsty murderers; Kim and Castro are at least nominally communist. If Americans truly hate being in league with such villains, then it should be consistent, or else drop all pretenses to civility.

Cuban Americans care about a free western style democratic Cuba, we know the world doesn't care about a free western style democratic Cuba, we know at least 99 % of the people of the world and most of my fellow NS nations don't care, even many right wingers, than you all wonder why those Crazy Cuban Americans like myself, say and do the crazy things we say and do.

The EU and European nations don't care what happens in Cuba, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the Hispanic Nations, Brazil, excluding Jair Bolsonaro perhaps to an extent, right wing Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, whom I support, and many others.

You sound like a supporter of the one political party state eternal revolution dictatorship for life of Cuba, and if so that is your democratic right to do so and your democratic right to post it.

Posted by Miami Shores. I was saving this post for later, Cuba before the revolution had a 30 to 35 % middle class, we were middle class, had a house, a family farm and the Hotel, restaurant and bar, a 5 % or 10 % upper class, like Voltaire, the rich upper class Padrino of my family in Cuba, a working class and a poor class, and you could move up from one class to the other.

He once told me, we were ready, willing and able to help Fidel, and he turned against us and nationalized all our businesses.

Fidel nationalized all of Cuba and the Cuban people and has treated Cuba like his own private plantation and the Cuban people as slaves, Fidel, Raúl and Diaz-Canel, rent Cuban workers doctors, nurses and other professionals throughout the world like slaves, and you are talking about
if it was a plantation where my workers were kept in a state of illiteracy and without access to medical care... Cuba before the revolution had education and medical care, Cuba before the revolution, was the top 2 or 3 of all Hispanic nations including Brazil and a top ranking nation of the world.

The so called free education and health care of the revolution, is not as free as it sounds, as free as the Cuban government regime's propaganda makes it sound like, my guy cousin, the one who emigrated legally to Miami and the USA, the right way, the one who told me be careful what you say about our family in Cuba, because it the Cuban government finds out who you are, they can make life hell for our family still in Cuba, when I showed him and told him all about NS.

Is an architect, he had to work x numbers of years for the Cuban government at a lower wage to repay the Cuban government for his so called free education, this happens with all professionals, not just my cousin, I am not making any of my posts up on my Cuba thread, add to that the volunteer work brigades in every sector of the economy, the days of work and no pay throughout the year, I am not making any of this up.

Their was an article on Granma once, stating, many Compañeros don't understand that the low wages are a result of the free benefits and triumphs of the revolution and the US embargo blockade, lol.

The Castro Brothers and his family live like rich, communist socialist capitalists, while asking for socialist sacrifice from the Cuban people, including from my family still in Cuba, please see the Link that proves my post, https://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=1151276

I can go on and on and on, but this will do for now, lol.
