Increased draw of local fans seems like it would be negligible, the Yankees still have a strong fanbase around Trenton, plus Trenton has the advantage of pulling in all the Phillies fans whenever Reading comes to town.

Earlier reports had Binghamton on the chopping block, so I wouldn't be surprised if the Thunder affiliate with the Mets.

MLB before the shit the fan was talking about streamlining the farm system for the betterment of baseball the owners bottom lines.

RIP Dick Allen

It's fortunate that the Phillies retired his number this past season while he was still alive to see it.

Always liked him. Hardest hit baseball i ever saw was hit by him at the old vet stadium. You could hear the air hissing around the seams.

I'm quite in favor of the Rocks, just cause they'd then be named after one of the theme songs from The Drew Carey Show.

It is sad to see another owner caved in and weakened due to a few woke yuppie millennials that probably don't even watch baseball. If they changed it to Native Americans to please the PC crowd, I might approve, but I doubt they will even make a fair compromise. Next up to change will be the Braves. I wonder if Brewers are offensive because many religions ban alcohol consumption and some people lost lives to drunk drivers or alcoholism. Dodgers is offensive because it reminds people of draft dodgers who avoided serving their nation. Giants is offensive because it discriminates against short people. Royals is offensive because many people suffered under various royal families tyranny. Yankees is offensive to ancestors of Confederate soldiers. Reds makes people think of communists and millions have suffered at the hands of various red governments.

The woke mob needs to create a list of approved names that teams can choose from. I assume for now that animals and clothes are fine but perhaps Red Sox could offend those that are colorblind and can't appreciate colors. Cubs and Tigers are carnivores which means they might offend vegetarians. The whole renaming process is a silly joke.

Usually have to go to a YouTube comment section to see a whiny meltdown like this.

Also, the Dodgers were named after people in Brooklyn who had to dodge the trolleys on the daily. Better known as trolley Dodgers

Yankees has nothing to do with the Civil War. It is mildly annoying to actual Yankees, but we're going to boo them anyway no matter what they call the team, so it doesn't really matter.

Well we tried highlanders, but all the Scotts bitched.

I know that about the Dodgers but some people who lack knowledge of history will just assume a different fact and say it is offensive anyways. After all, most Native Americans were NOT offended by Redskins and even less would likely be bothered by the Indians name.

Poll of Native Americans’ view of Redskins name finds “proud” most common answer

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2 ... on-answer/

only 9 percent of Native Americans described themselves as offended by the Redskins name, while 90 percent said it did not bother them.

Many people in the south dislike Yankees (as Northerners are called) because of the Civil War (among other things). You can find many people use 'Yankee' in a negative way.

Buddy, I'm from the south and my favorite team is the Yankees. So give it a rest.

Also, what do you think we are down here? Believe it or not, we have other interests/concerns that aren't related to the Civil War.

I meant team names that might offend some. It is an insult to tradition to change the Cleveland Indians name. Think of the great Indians teams in the past and the legends that played for them. The 1948 and 1954 Indian teams are among the best teams of all times. Think of legends associated with the team name like Bob Feller, Lou Boudreau, Larry Doby, Early Wynn, and Joe Sewell.

If just one person has a valid reason to be offended by the Yankees team name, it must be changed because in today's woke culture it is vital to avoid offending everybody. I am sure I could find at least one person that finds the Yankees team name offensive.

Yankees is just as bad as Redskins

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions ... story.html

The Confederate States of America used the Y-word as an insult as well. In fact, the Y-word is still used today in the South, to refer — usually in a disparaging manner — to Northerners.

Indians is not a racial slur. It was a mistake that Columbus made. This is just like stating that the term 'negro' is racist when it simply means 'black' in Spanish.

Would you suggest renaming the team 'Native Americans'? Native Americans is not really accurate because humankind likely started in the Middle East if you go by what the Bible says and the 'Native Americans' are just older immigrants that crossed the land bridge many years ago. There are no true 'Native Americans.'

One humorous idea that would allow the name to stay the same and be more PC would be to keep the name and change the mascot to an actual Indian in a traditional outfit playing baseball. This might also get the team an additional 1 billion fans.

It is a big league like the Japanese Baseball League but likely not the equal of the MLB. It might be like a AAA level league. Some players were top level and would have competed well with major leaguers but many others would likely be AAA or AA level as in the Japanese league. MLB is making an empty gesture here and should just simply recognize it as a separate but strong league.

It is unfortunate that we will never know for sure what percent of Negro League players would have made the MLB.

Were people complaining about the Indians because they dislike Indians? No. They were complaining because they thought the name was offensive to Indians.

If you're going to complain about the Yankees, you should complain about how unpopular they are with actual Yankees. "Yankee" is widely used in New England as a regional demonym with no negative connotations, hence Yankee Candle and other such things.
