I hope either the Braves, Twins, or Astros win this year. The Dodgers or Yankees winning would suck because those teams always have the money to have good players while most other teams have to go through periods of rebuilding.

No, it's just that if I wanted to watch a sport where one or two rich teams are consistently on top, I'd watch college football.

No, it's just that if I wanted to watch a sport where one or two rich teams are consistently on top, I'd watch college football.

The last time the Dodgers won the World Series was in 1988. The next time they were even in the Series was 2017. They lost. The next year, 2018, they lost again.

The last time the Yankees were in the Series was 2009. They won. They lost the Series to the Marlins in 2003 and to the Diamondbacks in 2001. They did win four of five titles from 1996 to 2000 but that was twenty years ago.

The Dodgers and the Yankees are not as dominant as people think.

People seem to forget that there was a time in the 60s 70s and the 80s the Yanks were in decline... although I'm sure some of you would like that anyway. Luckily CBS isn't gonna make the same mistake they did in the 60s and 70s and I don't see a sharp decline for the Bronx Bombers soon.... watch them fall off in 2020.

Baseball is about more than titles. Since their last WS win, the Yankees have had six seasons with more than 90 wins. They’ve made five trips to the playoffs with one more booked for this season. They advanced to the ALCS three times in that period. Meanwhile, the Dodgers have won seven straight division titles (with 90+ wins in all those seasons) meaning six straight playoff appearances with one more coming this season. If we go back 11 seasons for the Dodgers they’ve been to the NLCS or further six times. Small market teams would kill for this level of sustained success. Sure, their fans haven’t been appropriately rewarded, but the two teams have dominated the narrative of baseball for quite some time now—by their success and their October failures.

Since 2009, outside of three seasons, the Yankees and Dodgers have been in the top five for payroll. For a few of those years they were first and second, respectively. The teams that battled them the top spot: Cubs, Red Sox, Phillies, Giants. All teams with success over the same period of time. In baseball, you can buy success by acquiring good players. If you don’t have $200 million plus to throw at talent every year, you need to be excessively clever with what you have to find success. Luckily, the Yankees and Dodgers aren’t in that position.

Some of those late 60's teams were awful. CBS ran the team into the ground. Mantle played 3 years to long, and you wonder what modern surgical techniques would have done for the Mick's career.
