Thoughts on the NL Wild Card race?

For me, I think the Nats get the first spot, and then it's a toss up between the Mets and the Cards/Cubs for the second spot (Whichever one doesn't win the Central).

Given how tight the race is, I wouldn't rule out the Brewers picking up the second spot.

The Brewers are pathetic. There’s no way we end the season as a wild card. Our patchwork rotation and disappointing bullpen will fail us (on an even greater level than they already have) down the stretch.

The Mets will flop like they always do. Hot streak or not, it's still the Mets.

You could say something similar about the Brewers last season (when it came to their rotation, at least), and they took the Cubs to game 7 of the NLCS. I think Yelich, Moustakas, and co. can carry them to a wildcard but will lose the game in the end regardless.

Maybe it’s only because they had a big walk-off win tonight, but I think the Phils are a sneaky good pick.

Only making the wildcard would seem like a failure to that fanbase, anyway. Especially since I doubt they'd go on a deep run.

The Brewers had one of the best bullpens in baseball last year. They don’t have that safety net this year. Also, we didn’t take the Cubs to Game 7 of the NLCS. It was the Dodgers, who were notably weaker than they are this year. We did beat the Cubs in an extra game 163 to win the division though. Our bullpen isn’t strong enough to lift up the whole pitching staff anymore though. Hader is giving up way too many hard hit balls, Jeffress hasn’t returned to form after an injury last post-season, Knebel had T-J surgery before the season began, Burnes switched to a starting role and collapsed, and we lost some other key pieces. The Brewers will collapse as a team before this season ends, just like their individual players have been collapsing all season.

My bad  it was definitely the dodgers. I guess half of the league being the same color blue messed me up.

Regardless, you're probably right. Bullpen definitely hasn't been up to speed. However, the other wild card contenders are also seriously flawed – Washington still doesn't have a bullpen besides Doolittle, Cardinals are streaky, Cubs have pitching holes, Phillies are also streaky, etc. Besides, the Brewers are 5 games over despite their serious flaws, so they could still sneak in.

I just saw my first game at Miller Park on Saturday (best Grateful Dead Tribute game out of the 8 I have attended). You wouldn't know they were "pathetic" by the energy of the crowd. Great ball park, great fans...although getting out of the park after the game was a clusterfuck of epic proportions, and that is my only (minor) complaint.

Oh, the Brewers have one of the best fanbases in the game, no doubt. Currently, for this season, the team ranks eighth in total attendance despite having the smallest market size in baseball.

Some of the games last year in the postseason were amazing too. The energy is undeniable. I was at Game 1 of the NLCS; when Moose hit his walk-off single...I’ve never heard a crowd get so loud. Except for Game 1 of the NLCS when Woodruff hit a home run against Kershaw.

Let’s hope they can recapture some of the magic from last year. Before it’s too late.

I use too, while a yankee fan, Fenway is a beautiful park i have been there a few times, and I liked a couple of their managers, particularly franconia, I liked ortiz, I liked Ramirez. Even after pedro went after don Zimmer, i still kinda liked them.

I may not like them now as much as I use to I still dont hate the red Sox. Just as an FYI. The yankee - red Sox rivalry is a lot bigger in boston than it is in NYC.
