The tentative deal is to a group led by Baltimore native David Rubenstein, a founder of the Carlyle Group, to purchase the Orioles for $1.7B. Initially it will own 40% of the team, however when Peter Angelos, 94, passes away the new ownership group will gain full control of the team. Angelos bought the team in 1993 for $173M.

Who the fuck trades a former Cy Young winner for a 2nd round pick and a couple of minor leaguers?

A team in the NL Central that's made the playoffs 5 of the last 6 seasons, the Milwaukee Brewers. They reside in the smallest market in all of baseball. Burnes is in his contract year and Boras is his agent. Therefore Corbin Burnes may be only a one year rental. However, with the Orioles having a new and ready to spend to win ownership group on the immediate horizon, maybe they keep Burnes longer. Depends on how his 2024 season plays the fuck out.

In case you don't know anything about Ortiz or Hall, i can tell Ortiz hit major league baseballs 114.9 mph in MiLB last season. There's only a couple players in MLB that can even do that. He's ready defensively and hits for average and has power. The lefty DL Hall is ready to pitch at the major league level. Could be a starter. The 34th pick is actually 8 spots higher than where Baltimore selected Gunnar Henderson back in 2019. Great players can be found in the second round. The Brewers will be fine.

Oh boy. MLB can’t catch a break. First Tatis, now this, the marketable stars can’t help themselves.

So here’s the story: Ippei, Ohtani’s translator, revealed in a press conference that he went millions into debt illegally gambling on sports. He went to his friend Ohtani, and Ohtani paid off his debts for him.

Lawyers for Ohtani immediately denied that story and it got walked back in favor of Ohtani having had his money stolen by Ippei for gambling debt payoff.

So the story is changing.

There’s basically three options here: Ippei told the truth, Ohtani’s lawyer is telling the truth, or (worst possible option) Ippei placed bets in Ohtani’s name, and is becoming the fall guy.

Developing story, so we’ll see how this goes.
