Really. I wish the announcers didn't feel the need to fill every single freakin' second of air time with chatter. Call the balls and strikes and the plays, maybe a little about the players but shut up and let me watch the game, FFS!

This is why I prefer to watch the local feed whenever possible, they tend to be less obnoxious.

But even they don't shut up. It goes back to an inbred fear of "dead air," I guess, which in radio could be deadly to listenership. We can see what's going on , guys, it's okay.

Not only that, they could switch to a mic picking up ambient sound. It's perfectly possible to put a parabolic mic behind home plate and get the sound from the on-field action: the crack of a solid hit, the dull whump of a strike, and the cheering from the bleachers when the ball is in play.

No, but we're 11.7% through the season and the Orioles are have second place in August. Wha? And if they'd held on in the ninth and beaten NYY the other night they'd be tied for first. Nobody can expect a team that's 225-1 to win the WS to do much... but in 2020who knows? With a shortened season and bunches of players testing positive weird shit sure can happen. Maybe it becomes a battle of attrition, the teams which keep their rosters in tact can luck out? Which city has the best medical? Baltimore has John Hopkins. Top notch. OTOH, the Orioles just traded away a good pitcher. Guess the management has tossed in the towel, as per usual. So the players have to overcome that too.

Smith, Smith, Moran, and Morin sounds like a hell of a way to keep sports writers on their toes, and I have to admire Alvarez for managing to both win a silver in olympic speedskating and play major league baseball. He's probably earned a footnote in baseball history for that alone.
