So it's pretty much just a straight roof replacement?

Nothing really “straight” about it. Gotta imagine all the insides are pretty fucked atm as well. Smoke damage at the very least.

All the windows beneath the coverage of the vault seems to have made it intact according to pictures in that BBC report this morning. <.< I agree however on that fixing the hole in the medieval vault itself caused by a 750 ton spire falling through it is going to be a proverbial pain in the miktah. >.>

It really is a shame, I feel bad for those with an emotional attachment to the cathedral, but I don't particularly know enough about it to care.

The reconstruction phase hasn't arrived yet. It's now in getting the exact cause, cleaning and inspecting damage phase. So answer is: maybe.

Yeah that makes more sense. I wonder how long it'll take to clean up, that fire was pretty messy from what I saw.

Probably a while. Chances are a lot of it is still unstable, which will delay cleanup.

Sorry for so many questions, but I remember this and wanted someone to help me. Wasn't there another place of worship on fire at the same time as Notre Dame? I believe it was a mosque. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I swear I saw an article on that I can't find.

Look @ the news...

But it's the roof, the spire, and the rose windows that have took the brunt of the damage. The vault protected most of the interior, with some exceptions when parts of the vault collapsed. There is also a lot of water inside, so there is likely to be some water damage as well, but that was unavoidable; it was either flood the place with water to save it or watch it all burn down.

Yes, it can be said as our third holiest site, and well, thanks God nothing important gets destroyed and none gets hurt, since it's a small fire compared to the Notre Dame, like Marxist Germany said.
