I mean, it ain’t exactly renovations now, it’s more rebuilding the whole fucking thing.

Not the point. I used a parallel so that he can understand why we feel the way we do regarding ND burning. I would have expected that from reading his post and then my answer that would’ve been clear.

I mean, the Kaaba HAS suffered many reverses in its long history, from fire to collapse to its Black Stone being stolen by the Qarmatians.

Well, since nobody died, and apparently, the art and shit is safe now, lets make lemonade out of lemons, and start the world's largest marshmallow roasting party.

Abolitionism in the North has leagued itself with Radical Democracy, and so the Slave Power was forced to ally itself with the Money Power; that is the great fact of the age.

Hopefully whatever rebuilding package gets sent through doesn't eat into restoration budgets for other cathedrals around Paris, Saint-Sulpice and others still need cleaning and repairs :/

Indeed sad and truly upsetting to see such beautiful construction to be damaged in such a horrific way, I hope whenever they can do, they can restore as possible. A reminder, that this isn't the first time that has happened. Another version is closely linked to a case where the French Revolutionists whom were Anti-Christ and saw the Notre-Dame as a symbol of Monarchism (They indeed had influence over the people and much more) plundered and ransacked the Notre-Dame De Paris... (Understandable that it is offtopic) Just thought I'd share some information.. Such a beautiful building built by the hard-working French.

Destroying houses from Muhammad’s era to build a hotel is abhorrent.

Ironically the people who go to stay at those hotels go to worship God and Muhammad.

You are implying that the average pilgrim can afford to stay at those ludicrously expensive hotels.

Uh.....actually I think that the people who went on Hajj in Mecca only worship God, but okay. Unless you are talking about Medina, then they worship by the tomb of Muhammad SAW and not worshipping him themselves.

What the Saudis did, how noble their intentions might be (according to themselves), are just plain stupid.
Let's go back to the topic before it's going too far.

Actually really pleased to see that a decent chunk of the cathedral and a lot of the artefacts survived. They hold religious, historical and cultural significance. They are in a real sense irreplaceable - as is of course the life the firefighter who is seriously injured. I hope they survive.
As an editor I seam to spend an awful lot of thyme going threw issues and checking that they're no oblivious errars. Its a tough job but someone's got too do it!

Why don't you engage your braincells and have a wee wirr of the old cogs up there and try again maybe? It's not a hard one.

I suppose you found it utterly necessary to be as unpleasant as possible and go out of your way to not answer a pretty straightforward and simple question.

Why don't you answer the question?

Its owned by the state, but there is some sort of deal with the archdiocese if I remember.
