I don't know if anyone here knows this, probably some do, but the medieval roof that burned, was called ''the forest'' because it is said that it took a literal forest to build it.

And now trees all over France are nervous.

Sadly the timber in that roof was Medieval and I think part of the first iteration of the church. Better check that out.

I think it's a bit more than that. The spire is gone, at least two of the big rose windows are gone and the other is damaged. Who knows what damage all that water did, too?

This is really terrible, and no doubt many invaluable pieces were lost. However, we should have no doubt that France can and will restore Notre Dame. This is not the first cathedral to have caught fire, and many of those have been restored. This one will be too.

We should all be thankful that no one died.

Yeah, I thought the same way. Though if the history has been an indicator of the problem, I say that at this point, we probably don't even have the original Notre Dame? I mean, before this fire, it has been damaged and restored for a few times in the past such as WW1 and WW2, so at this point, can we say the originals more or less don't exist anymore?

On another topic, I'm glad that most of the artifacts survived, and that at the very least, it can be rebuilt and salvageable. I still want to visit the Notre Dame during my lifetime. ^^

Over time, some of the decorations and art were damaged. The fabric of the cathedral was given a restoration between the 1840s and 1860s because it had become very worn because of the passage of time. It suffered no damage in World War 1 and only very minor damage in World War 2.

Seems like either something is holding Notre Dame to NOT fall, or that both the Frenchmen and the world agreed that Notre Dame should be saved no matter what. Either way, I'm glad that there are going to be reparation efforts. ^^ I hope it all goes well!
