CNN's latest update: https://www.cnn.com/world/live-news/not ... index.html
The fire at Notre Dame Cathedral “goes beyond Paris,” Archbishop Michel Christian Alain Aupetit told CNN.

“I received a supportive message from the chief rabbi of Paris. Everyone is writing in to share their feelings. This goes beyond Paris. People are reacting worldwide,” Aupetit said.

“The young people behind me show the power of faith, the power of a message of peace,” the Paris archbishop added.

That gladdens me.

The Turkish foreign minister also showed solidarity:
Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Turkey is following news of the fire at Notre Dame cathedral in Paris with “great sadness,” according to his official Twitter page.

“The destruction of this architectural masterpiece of world heritage is a disaster for all humanity,” Cavusoglu wrote in French on the social media site.

Let us reflect and have compassion for this disaster as one. For truly this was, and is, Notre Dame

That warms my heart. Some water damage and scorches from falling debris but otherwise intact.

In the short term they are likely going to need to put a massive plastic wrap over Notre Dame to stop rain ingress, and use industrial dehumidifiers to get the damp out after they have pumped out the majority of the water.

I believe the proper term is tarp

I don't think we could 3D print Notre Dame at all. We don't have printers that can construct at that scope. And yes, 3D houses are a thing but this... this is a whole 'nother animal. If Macron said something like that, wow. I don't think he would though.

Make a modular 3d printed Notre Dame.

Agreed, and I also think that given this is a historical monument (and religious building) that is somehow......unethical? I don't know, maybe just my feelings.

And treat ND like a pre-fab house with parts? Surely you jest. :lol2:

French employment laws make forced retirement impossible even when the firefighter needs to be brought there by two morticians plus 1 to carry the bucket.

Modular churches are a thing. But to my knowledge there has never been an attempt made to create a modular cathedral, likely on account of cathedral construction being such a tiny niche market.

Cathedrals ought to be in the shape of a cross really. Look up Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral. It looks like it was made by space mongols.

Looks like someone took too much inspiration from Vlad Tepes, personally.

It's the massive scope and all the iconography and parts that go in a building of the size and history of ND.

I am truly sad about the complete destruction of the forest (the Medieval roof structure), but at least the damage to the interior wasn't as bad as I thought.

FYI: fire fighters were scrambling and climbing up the structure while it was burning trying to save as much as they could. Respect.

Many are. This may not the be the best pic, but here one can see ND's own cross shape from the sky.

Imagine every man having a 400 foot high cathedral printed at home.

It's always interesting to realize that you can't really appreciate that shape from the ground. Even when you know it's there.

Not ND but the best example because it is very marked (St. Patrick's Cathedral, NY). That's pretty much the basic plan of most cathedrals, ND included.
