BBC News is reporting that the main spire has collapsed. It's an unbelievable tragedy.

Notre Dame is not merely a cultural monument and so on, it is the first front on humanities preservation of historical buildings movement and the building that inspired it. Its significance is not merely in and of itself, but for what it represents in terms of renovation and preservation of historical sites for future generations. It cannot be allowed to burn.

Damn shame to see such a historic building going up in flame. Hopefully it will be repairable but unfortunately it looks like it is going to cost quite the pretty penny. Hope it all ends "well".

That's a shame. Notre-Dame is a beautiful, if intimidating, piece of art not to mention history. Hopefully it will be restored... like the other times it needed a restoration.
