Good news is the White House has promised to help rebuild Notre Dame, despite my displeasure of that news.

I love to hear people supporting Notre Dame at this time, but I don't think the U.S. government should offer support at a time when the U.S. government has failed to provide rebuilding support for our own people.

Someone got the bright idea to bring down St Patrick's in New York as well.. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/201 ... -cathedral

Only days after flames ravaged Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, a man has been arrested after entering St Patrick’s Cathedral in New York carrying two cans of gasoline, lighter fluid and butane lighters, according to the New York Police Department.

The unidentified 37-year-old from New Jersey had pulled up in a minivan outside the cathedral on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, walked around the area, then returned to his vehicle at 7.55pm and retrieved the gasoline and lighter fluid, said the NYPD deputy commissioner of intelligence and counter-terrorism, John Miller.

“As he enters the cathedral he’s confronted by a cathedral security officer who asks him where he’s going and informs him he can’t proceed into the cathedral carrying these things,” said Miller. “At that point some gasoline apparently spills out on to the floor as he’s turned around.”

Security then notified officers from the counter-terrorism bureau who were standing outside, he said. The officers caught the man and arrested him after he was questioned.

“His basic story was he was cutting through the cathedral to get to Madison Avenue. That his car had run out of gas,” Miller said. “We took a look at the vehicle. It was not out of gas and at that point he was taken into custody.”

“It’s hard to say exactly what his intentions were, but I think the totality of circumstances of an individual walking into an iconic location like St Patrick’s Cathedral carrying over four gallons of gasoline, two bottles of lighter fluid and lighters is something that we would have great concern over,” Miller added. “His story is not consistent.”

Well we did have a handful of idiots who unironically thought the burning of Notre Dame was a good thing. Likely they're one of those types of people.

Hell there's a frenzy in the the Right Wing clickbait machine over Rolling Stone quoting some idiotic college professors who claimed that the burning of Notre Dame was an "Act of Liberation" and that it's existence and historical meaning was oppressing Paris.

I like the fact that nations are helping to rebuild the Notre Dame, but I'm afraid the opposition will be a great pain to the neck. The extremist Muslims are actually happy that the Notre Dame is in flames. I understand that in the past we destroyed their buildings, but we now are in the present and have learnt. We should respect others' religions. I am Christian, but have good Muslim friends. I am afraid this will make a bad image across Islam and crisis will rise.

It's a huge shame that it has happened. I really hope that the French builders can fix it. I'm quite confident they can, with all of the budget they have. If the cathedral was placed in let's say, Nepal, it'll most likely just have been left there. I really hope the French don't do that kind of thing, it's a cultural landmark and was a huge part of French lives. Like I said, such a shame.

I understand. In the wayyyyy past we destroyed Muslim buildings. However, we have buried the hatchet(I hope) and become friends. However, there are extremists who are unforgiving and wants Islam to take control of the world. And, they are looking to so-called 'exterminate' all Christians. That is why they want to destroy the Notre Dame in my opinion.
Another reason is that workers from former French colonies, most inportantly Algeria, have migrated there. I suppose this is like revenge for overtaking their homeland.

Whatever it is, there are some Muslims who sympathise with the grievous ones. So, not all Muslims are guilty.

Nepal may be too poor to support the rebuilding, that's why they will leave it there. France is a well-developed nation, so they'll definitely not leave it to waste.
