Could a properly outfitted UN mission get things done in Sudan? The UN has its problems but with the right people and without being hamstrung by HQ, they can achieve results.

I haven't heard of this leader until now, so I have no reason to believe that their regime was bad. Whoever Sudan has next in charge, I'm in favor of them annexing South Sudan again, given that it's independence has been a failed experiment.

That would lead to more war and ethnic cleansing.

The so-called "international community" (aka the West) should never have been supported the creation of this entity. Thats how they say thanks.

If the new Sudanese government is any better than the shit Bashir put the poor people through, just let them take over "South Sudan". It has the three benefits of decreasing the number of soviereign states, pacifying South Sudan, and making Sudan stop being an Arab Majority Nation (and thus part of the Arab World)

It's difficult to say whether or not the new sudanese leadership will be any better thn Al-Bashir, I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt though. The protestors seem, probably for good reason, more sceptical. In the end we do not know whatever internal mechaniations or workings are going on inside the sudanese regime. However I believe they're trying to safeguarding their own position by getting rid of Al-Bashir.

How that ends reminds yet to be seen.

That the military was as responsible for the shit Bashir put the people through as Bashir himself is not something I deny. And as many have said, there is always the possibility that this "temporary transition stage" ends up being permanent. However, I still say that if this ends up benefiting the Sudanese, then it may be time -in a few years- to deal with South Sudan once and for all.

Yeah, nothing says "democracy" like a military coup. Not that people would care, given it's Sudan, unless they're Sudanese, democrat, or authoritarian.

Sure it is highly unlikely to bring democracy and make Sudan a wonderful place.
Sudan will likely always be a miserable place. But this probably does not make things worse either. Replacing a shit dictator with a shit oligarchy is a wash.

South Sudan has fought 2 wars to achieve its independence so I really doubt it's going to let its former oppressor to roll in and take it away. If Sudan does invade the south then not only will both the rebels and government stop their fighting and unite together against the invading forces but the UN and especially the US will tolerate their ally being invaded and will most likely send troops to aid them. So a war will literally achieve nothing apart from more death and destruction.

FP says that the force behind this is not the military, but the Professional Alliance. They strongly resist any sort of military junta
I like then, but whether or not they will succeed with their goals of a transition to Euro style bourgeois bureaucracy remains to be seen.
