My reply almost a month later. My Eid was quite good. Less boring than my usual boring Eids.

Generally fine. Got rained on a bit yesterday, but it was......fun, I suppose.

Eid was good enough. I suppose that was the first time our family attended the service at a local mosque after all these years of pandemic. The fun thing was when I helped baking those pineapple tarts for Eid.

Oh, him.
In the nicest way possible, I will say that I don't like him. Not sure what kind of person he is to raise a.....guy to be that sadistic.
Edit: I also dislike the fact that he started the whole "caliphate is just another monarchy" thing.

In terms of "being a virtuous person"... he's not one to say the least, but Muawiya was probably the single person responsible for the survival of the Caliphate and the very idea of Islam as a religion after Ali got his hands on the them both. From a purely "what this guy did for Islam" perspective, the only people more productive for the sustained survival of Islam after Mohammed's death were Abubakr, Omar and Yazid I, all three for the same reason: they were relatively competent statesmen who prevented the line of Ali from being able to remain Caliph for long, and expanded the religion through conquest.

So, apparantly there are some tensions between India and the muslim world because the politician Nupur Sharma said "something insulting about the prophet" in response to some muslims mocking her own faith.
Sofar, every newsoutlet however refuses to mention what that "something" actually is.

So... can anyone enlighten me? Naturally expletives and such can be left out if she used those.

So, for starters, tensions are already super high in India & Muslims are very on edge, due to the ruling govt being anti-Muslim, with direct ties to Hindu extremists who have a pretty Mein Kampfy Islamophobic manifesto, allowing Hindutva nationalists to lynch Muslims for eating beef, beat up people because they think the person might be Muslim, throw rocks at mosques & blare anti-Muslim songs outside of them, and threaten to destroy the Taj Mahal & other sites built by Muslims.

The recent comments insulting Muhammad (S) & Aisha were seen by Indian Muslims as spitting on their wounds, and to the outside Muslim world’s leaders (who largely were willing to ignore India screwing over fellow Muslims so long as India kept stuffing their pockets) as crossing a line.

So what were the actual comments? People suggest it was something like "Aisha was 6 when Muhammed married here and 11 when he consummated that marriage" - which until a few decades ago was a pretty common belief within the muslim world itself. So that alone could not be the insulting part.

Some politicians in India can be very Islamophobic, especially from the BJP. As for the average person, it's a mixed bag. Sometimes you meet the friendliest people you ever know, others can be, well...BJP-ish.

Tbh as a non-Indian it's pretty hard to search for the one that is not in Hindi or any Indian languages (as I don't understand them), but I just recently find out what seems to be an English transcription. Given how.....offending it might be, I'm not sure if it's okay to send here. You can look up at the twitter of Rana Ayyub, as she posted the video or part of it there (on May 28 if I'm not wrong).

Thank you.
So basically she is upset her religion was insulted and starts with "should I mock YOUR religion in turn" - which she follows up by "like mentioning that the Qu'ran states the earth is flat" and indeed a statement about the age of Aisha, which she puts at 9 instead of 11 as I had heard.

Both of those used to be mainstream beliefs in Islam. So aside from the tone, which was obviously provoked but still unfitting for a politician, what exactly is the problem?

If it's the same person I think it is, the statement was less "Aisha was 9 when Mohammed married her" and more "Mohammad is a podophilic rapist", a conclusion derived from the prior statement that some may consider inflammatory.

I'm not sure actually what is the cause since these....happenings in India seems to be entwined with one another, but tensions are already high between Muslims and Hindus afaik before this. I can.....sort of see that this one is a catalyst, at least, for the Muslims of the subcontinent. Not sure about the Middle Eastern states.

Biladu Al Rafidayn wrote:I am a Shia. I honestly believe that these people are idiots, and so are the people who are insulting the Sunnis (comparing them to Daesh). Can’t we all just get along?

I believe that the Saudis would support Deobandis also if it meant spreading extreme versions of Islam

Responding to this in IDT since it seems appropriate for further discussion:
Honestly, it's kind of hard, especially with the presence of incendiary elements within a community. Not that it's impossible, but people literally have to look pass sectarian beliefs to see that in essence we are just humans who congregate under the same umbrella of faith, even if we disagree with some of their beliefs. Changing that outlook is not simple, especially if people prefer to hole up in their views of "we are right and they are wrong, therefore [insert something]".

I want to personally thank all the theologically conservative Muslims for calling out non-Muslim progressive leftists for using Islamic symbols and imagery to promote LGBT ideology. I wish conservative Christians had the fortitude to do the same. We are just called bigots…

Which one? :p
(There are several Muawiyahs in history that I know of)

The one who turned the caliphate into an inherited position, fought the Ahl al-Bayt, and whose son killed Hussayn (A).

Many might disagree with me, but I mostly see him positively. With the rise of the Khawaarij and the increasing number of Shias (not all, but the ones who's aqeedah is problematic). Ali (RA) was doing kind of bad as a leader. He was great in his early years, but later on he kind of just went downhill. And Aisha (RA) was right to protest, although I am against the civil war that took place because of it. Her choice to rebel was a bad one. But whatever happened then happened. But during the fitna, we could see more clearly with each battle that Ali's leadership was failing. And with a leadership like that, the Murtads and Khawaarij were bound to take advantage. And I believe everything happens for the best and Muawiyah came to power. May Allah curse the Khawarij who killed Ali (RA). But it was prophesied that he would die as a Shaheedh and it happened. Then as for Yazid killing Husayn (RA), I do not agree Muawiyah can be blamed for it. His son did that, not him. All in all, Muawiyah had his flaws, but I do not see him as a bad person. I see him positively. He has helped the ummah very much despite turning the caliphate to an inherited position and letting Yazid come to power.

And thank you for remaining moral. We're allies in this struggle, not enemies.

What do you think would've happened if he didn't come into power?

Born and raised Shafi'i, been drifting closer to Hanafi since adulthood.
