Fully agreed, hence why I'll still follow a certain ruling from a madhhab. Just not any specific one all the time.

Do you have an aqidah?

Yeah. Another reason is that my masjid doesn't really follow a madhhab. I'm not even sure if most of the brothers and sisters there know what a madhhab is (though I may be assuming here). My masjid follows the teachings of Imam Warith Deen Mohammed

I don't think it's possible for a mosque to not follow a madzhab. How would they do Eid prayers?

The Imams go to a meeting in [city name redacted for personal reasons] and - in the case of RamaDaan - I guess either sight the moon or debate when Eid'll begin (I believe the former).

I meant the procedure of the prayer itself, like what happens after everyone is gathered in the designated field on Idul Fitri.

Very interested, I want to know more about 'aqidah and fiqh in general.

For Maturidi there is "Tabsirat al-Adilla", for Ashari there is "Iyha Ulum al-Din", for Athari there is Ibn Taymiyya's "Kitab al Iman". A good general book is "The Cambridge Companion to Classical Islamic Theology". "Al Ghazali's Philosophical Theology" is an easy read and makes a case that Al Ghzali was, contrary to reputation, not purely Ashari. For fiqh you should start with "Al Muwatta".

Jazakallah Khairan. Are these books translated into English? I don't speak much Arabic.

It said in the article he supported developing a fifth madhab since each region usually has the hegemony of a madhab in Sharia but America has no one suited to it. This is possible but it would be an extraordinary undertaking.

Personally I'd say he did do that. Many Muslims -at least the ones who follow him - didn't have the resources to read other Islamic books (we were either converts from Chrsitianity or converts from the NOI) so we really only had him to guide us on the Deen. He was a very influential leader so his legacy and influence is long lasting.

That would be referred to by his name, e.g. Deeni madhab. Although it is tentative as America does not currently allow Shariaa courts and it would need to eventually establish penal procedure and so forth.

Cool, a Maaliki Ash'ari (or are you Athari?)

If you only accept the Qur'an or Sunnah for fatawa, that is Hanbali. They do not accept precedent but require proof from the Qur'an or Sunnah for every fatwa and do not accept any as valid without such direct proof. I am Ashari, I am a big fan of The Revival of the Religious Sciences.

Hanbali is pretty close to my own views on Islamic law. Too many Islamic countries make ridiculous fatwa without basis in Quran or the Sunnah.
